I had the filet mignon, which was absolutely delicious. But why ruin such a lovely piece of meat by covering it in a sausage gravy? Yuck. I was hoping to get some nice sautéed fiddleheads. After all, this is the name of the restaurant. Nope. Not even some fresh asparagus, which was listed on their board. What I got was some sort of potato pancakes, againslathered in sausage gravy. Yuck. It was also NOISY when staff friends arrived. I had to cover my ears! But my waitress was superb, and my duck crepe appetizer delicious.
Parking is limited but it is possible to find a spot on the streets nearby, if you are patient. The entrance is a little unusual, you do not go in the front door but instead sort of in the back, down a charming, warm corridor that feels a little like a small European town. They seem to be very busy so be sure to make a reservation but the queue moves quickly and the hosts are very warm and polite but not stiff or formal. The menu is concise and has something for the adventurous and for the mild. They are very skilled with managing salt levels and spices and are not afraid to bring some heat. The cheese board is tasty but not worth $31 and not diverse enough in flavors. The fresh pasta is cooked perfectly but in both the ravioli and tagliatelle the crab and lobster are stingy and bland. In the tagliatelle the crab seems canned and there was a VERY small amount. Similarly, in the spicy fish stew the fish was minimal, although again it was well cooked and composed. But, in a $19 bowl of stew I expected more meat and less filler. The double smash burger was beyond sloppy; it was mush and overpoweringly onion forward. The best part of our meal was the warm, witty and charming service that came with both speed and attentiveness. They also make very well-balanced, creative cocktails. It is definitely worth a visit but expect to have great drinks, memorable service and an over-priced but well cooked meal that falls short of their aim.
Excellent food and drinks.
This food was next level. I usually take my leftovers to die in the fridge, but these got eaten the next day with no hesitation. Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was top-notch. Everytime I go to visit Maine, this has to be one of my stops!
This place is top-notch. You can tell the difference when somebody is doing what they love for work, vs just doing it for a paycheck, and here they really love their work. The staff are friendly, the food is fresh and high-quality, and the atmosphere is comfortable. Highly recommend.
A well worth visit for a first time on a Saturday evening. Really busy, but a nice vibe and standout main dishes and sharables. I am sorry that it has taken us this long to have dinner here given how many times we have visited Bangor.
Fiddlehead is the ultimate farm to table experience. Food is locally sourced, made on site and very delicious. Great service and friendly staff. Not cheap but worth every penny !
Lauren and her staff were fabulous and very helpful with wine and menu suggestions that my husband, son and I found to be very delicious. One of our favorite things was the complementary corn bread that was great! All of us also enjoyed the cheese plate as a first course! We will definitely return to enjoy another meal.
Amazing food exceedingly friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommend
Owner and staff were very friendly and fun. Accepted us even without a reservation. AMAZING selection of cocktails, great wine list, and delicious food. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Even though we were only in town from NYC for the weekend, our stop through the fiddlehead restaurant made it feel like Bangor was a home away from home.
