the food was absolutely amazing, i ordered the Cazuela, so good, and too top that off it took less than 10 mins to get an order for 5, woow, can't wait to go again.

My husband and I were seated in a very noisy drinking area of the restaurant even though over half the quieter booths were available. Someone brought us chips n salsa and walked away. She said nothing, made no eye contact. Awkward. We didn’t get our drink orders taken for over 10 minutes. Another 5 minutes for the drinks to appear, minus the water that was never delivered. Our server was polite and for the most part, attentive. Food arrived quickly, fairly decent cheap Mexican food with large portions. Authentic? It’s a decent attempt. We will return on occasion, there’s a 50/50 chance you’ll either love it or hate it. Next time I’m waiting for a booth!

We enjoy Mexican/Latin food and are grateful for the growing number of quality restaurants near us serving dishes that show off the diversity and sophistication of the cuisine. We travel to Bangor often and have added Las Palapas to our list of favorites. The extensive menu offers plenty of standards – tacos, burritos, etc. – produced in a kitchen that knows its stuff. But there’s so much else to consider. Like a well-made relleno filled with spinach and cheese or a plate of perfectly grilled carne asada covered in grilled and charred onions and poblanos. The generous sides of rice and refried beans were far above average, reinforcing that the kitchen cares about what it produces. The salsa accompanying the bowl of tortilla chips was garlicky and feisty but Armondo, our waiter, went a step further. My wife is bilingual, so much of our discussion was in Spanish. She asked if there was another salsa that had more of a kick. Armondo headed to the kitchen and came back with a bowl of a thick, dark and aromatic salsa dominated by a good adobo base. It made everything on our plates so much better and turned my carne asada into a dish I’ll be thinking about for months to come. Las Palapas is a busy restaurant, with multiple dining rooms. Residents of Bangor obviously know what a treasure they have. If you’re in town and have growling stomachs, give this place a try.
The service was excellent. The portions were huge. The food was good but not great. I'm not a big Mexican food person. I like tacos and quesadias, but when it comes to anything else especially with rice and beans I am out. Definitely a place to go to get authentic Mexican cuisine.
