Great atmosphere and waiter was awesome! Food is excellent!
I am a native of Bangor. I no longer live here but I never fail to come to Blaze when I visit. This was the best experience! I felt like I was sitting in downtown Boston. The streets were alive with a contagious summer energy. The outside seating area was large and nearly full. I chose to sit inside. I sat in a window seat and enjoyed the eclectic view of people meandering by. I'm not too old to enjoy a handsome scenery...there was certainly some of that. (See photos) My waitress, Tyra (on left) was exceptionally sweet and very attentive. The bartender was friendly and makes a stellar drink. For those who aren't familiar, Blaze sits in a building that's more than 100 years old. There's a nuclear fallout shelter in the basement. Nextdoor is the Charles Inn. It's considered haunted by some and, was once featured in "Hotel Impossible". Al Brady was gunned down by the FBI just outside both buildings. In 1937 he and his gang came to Bangor to buy machine guns from a local sporting goods store. The FBI was tipped off. The shootout was described as "A spectacular gun battle" (See Wikipedia). If you come to Bangor, don't miss sitting in this beautifully renovated restaurant rich in history and in "spirits".
I spent $75+ excluding tip on 1 beer, poutine. Half rack ribs, 4 bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños, and 2 sodas- no refills. The bacon was not fully cooked and I ended up cutting large amounts of uncooked pieces away or removed it completely. The ribs were fine. Poutine was over salted. I was not impressed for the price. Detail is everything.
Had a wonderful time with the family tonight! Very friendly waitress, she had a great attitude and great service even though we know they’re short staffed. Our sons had a great time and loved the burgers, pizza , seafood and bottled flavored sodas! My youngest said he wants to work there! ?. Thanks for the lovely night, great attitude when you must be exhausted and delicious food!
My fiancé & I travel for work and love to stop at new places to try. As Maine natives we were excited to stop here and try this, we were hoping to try the new Blue Hill location but it was closed. If we could rate this a zero, we would. This was hands down one of the worst experiences we've had. We were quickly seated (which was the only good thing), 21 minutes later we were greeted by our Waitress who was very soft spoken, and she did not introduce herself. We ordered our drinks, which she never brought over. We then ordered our meal and she did not write anything down, then had to proceed to come ask us details about our order again- and my food still came out wrong. We both ordered burgers, medium well. It took us 1 hour and 41 minutes to get our food, with no interaction from the Waitress the entire time. Once we received our food, our Waitress disappeared and we did not see her again. Our burgers were raw, completely rare. We payed the bill right when food was dropped off and we left after not being able to consume our meal.We don't mind paying for good food and service but $40 for 2 horrible burgers & horrible service is a bit much. Absolutely will never try again nor will we recommend to anyone.
I almost *never* leave reviews that aren't 5 stars. I'm pretty easy to satisfy, especially when it comes to simple pub-style food and burgers. That said, both the cheese and the bun on my burger were ice cold. Not only that, but my bun was incredibly soggy. Not soggy from lots of sauce or burger juice, but just straight up wet. For $40 for two, I expected at least an edible burger.
To get the negatives out of the way service is slow (assuming due to staffing like everyone else), seating in the bar area is tight, and on a night like tonight the bar gets very cold. Those things being said I still give it five stars because the food is spectacular. The drinks are well made and creative and the bartender really knows what he's doing. My steak was cooked to absolute perfection and seasoned so well. French fries in duck fat were so yummy and flavorful. The menu is diverse without overstretching their abilities. I was there solo tonight and I already told my sister that I plan to take her there soon.
Really hoping I went on an off night. I've been several times to blaze and it's hit or miss. Last time was a miss. I ordered the brisket sandwich and when it came to the table I couldn't eat the brisket. It was like brisket jerky. Deli meat thin, hard and chewy, everything brisket is not supposed to be. I'm always willing to give the benefit of the doubt. If you order the brisket sandwich ask about it before ordering.
We waited forever for our food. A dozen wood fired oysters shouldn’t take 40 mins. They are a quick dish. When the food finally came, all at once, the oysters and a couple of burgers, everything was cold. I am talking not even room temp, but COLD. When I asked the waitress why we are getting everything at once she said the oysters take the longest to cook. Ok, for those keeping track of insulting excuses, that is number 1. Then when we found out that 125 dollars of food just delivered to our table was cold the next waitress came out with “it just came out”. So, yeah, food that comes straight out of the kitchen is always cold. Poor excuse #2. Now we have two servers lying and insulting my intelligence. Obviously our food was sitting in that kitchen for way over 40 mins. The place was empty. How could this happen you wonder? They should have refired our ticket and at least comped us a couple cocktails. They did nothing. If you want to gamble with 125 of your hard earned dollars, go to the casino and just play the slots. At least you can get a free cocktail while you lose your money. I will NEVER go back and I will inform others to do the same. Shame on the staff!!
Food: 4☆Service: 5☆Atmosphere: 5☆I enjoyed the duck fried burger. Great flavor. The drinks were really delicious. The tacos had huge chunks of chicken that were hard to bite apart. Quite dry. Flavor was there though.
