I like to travel and do different things. We were hungry my wife and I, I told her find me a spot that says they have good breakfast.. This place blew my mind for being a small all little shop stop in a small little town. Just wow. So 100% get thier hash browns, and a ice box pie. That whip cream is amazing. Wish I could steal it. I'm from Houston but I hope to make it back soon. Thanks for the good food.
Excellent: Biscuit's; ham steak, homemade hash browns; pie; pancakes; eggs Other stuff on the menu I'm not sure because the above is all wife and I had to eat. But, I bet it is all good. Fun atmosphere.
I'm not exactly sure why we have never came here in the past, just never did, boy were we missing out.Parked in the rear of the building and came in the back door. On the way in, we were talking about never having been there. Well low and behold as soon as we sit down at our table the owner brings us a slice of strawberry pie. He says, "I heard you have never been here before. Here's a slice on me." And that's when I knew I was in trouble. Let's just say that it was a very large meal with more pie to follow. So, the meal started with a slice of strawberry icebox pie. Easily the best part. It was delicious. The rest of what we got was great as well. I got a burger and fries and the Mrs. got the hamburger steak and mashed potatoes. After that we went ahead and got another slice to share. This time chocolate. Man, am I full! Well done Strawn's!
My wife and I have been going to Strawn's whenever we are in Shreveport for well over 30 years and have always absolutely LOVED their pies. Last time we went to Shreveport, we took my wife's mother there and she loved them too. Sad to say, they seem to now be suffering from the post pandemic blues. This time around, and for the FIRST time EVER in all those years, my wife and I were both disappointed. My strawberry pie was good, but it just seemed to consist of strawberries and a very thin, somewhat overcooked crust. It tasted good, but Strawn's used to have some sort of cream filling mixed in with the strawberries that made that pie something special. My wife had the coconut pie, and she said that it lacked something as well and that the crust on her pie was overdone too. Plus, the price was $5 a slice ( I'm sure due to the inflation that seems to be currently rampant, driving the prices of food ingredients upwards.) I don't THINK that their pies were $5 a slice the last time we ate there, probably 4 or 5 years ago, but I may be mistaken. But their pie then was so good then, we would have been happy paying it. This time were disappointed; my wife to the point where I am going to have to talk her into going back again if we should pass through Shreveport in the future. Help was courteous and prompt, and the pie was all we ordered so I can't comment on anything else. I DID get a cup of coffee which was fine. But we both came away feeling sad.
Best pie, best breakfast! Best service and friendliness ever. Their biscuits ...phenomenal. the retro floor tiles awesome. Plus fabulous murals...if you're in Shreveport you must eat at Strawn's Eat Shop!!
We always plan our travel schedule so we can stop here when we pass through Shreveport. It had been a few years since we were able take a long trip, so we were excited to return to Strawn's! The food is as good as we remembered: club sandwich, Facebook salad (spinach with grilled chicken, feta, strawberries and pecans) and - of course! - a big piece of chocolate pie. The servers were even better than we remembered. It was recently remodeled, including rearranging certain areas and installing new flooring, so now the place looks even better too. We'll definitely be back!
My first time there and will be my last. The food was good but the service was horrible. My order was mistaken for something else and the waitress acknowledged it and gave it to me anyways even though that wasn't what I order and walked away. Waited till we were about to leave to even check if we wanted a refill. It's like we were bother her or was an inconvenience. But worst of all she didn't like the tip she was given by us and made sure to turn around and show her regular how much she was left. Equal tip or equal service
I had some delightful pancakes, eggs, and breakfast sausages at Strawn's with extremely friendly staff. I sat in front of the grill and was able to see the excellent work put in. I finished off with a strawberry pie which was extremely tasty and hard to not obtain more
Get there early if you want a table for breakfast. I got an omlette and my husband had eggs and their homemade hash browns. The service is friending and professional. The cafe is clean and nicely decorated. Didn't wait long for breakfast. I will only eat a breakfast here which they serve all day. Lunch and dinner are basically okay cafeteria style, fresh from the can meals.
Hard to give four stars. But not far from it. The staff is wonderful and friendly, five out of five stars for staff alone. But the prices have gone up and the food has always been simple. Not bad by any means, but nothing to write home about. It's a wonderful place to go for breakfast or a quick bite. But to be honest the one saving grace for me is the biscuits. Above all else they have the best biscuits, and it is the sole reason I eat here... Well, that and a wonderful slice of pie afterwords. The biggest disappointment I can get here is getting in just a little too late and the kitchen being out of biscuits. It used to be if you got there a minute past nine am you were out of luck for sure, but it's been less and less an issue as of late. My recommendation will always be the hungry man special and a slice of pie, yum!
