Love restaurants in old houses. They allow you plenty of time for you to settle in. Waitress explained everything. All answers were great. She did not skip a beat. Food of course was good. They go out of their way to do special request if they have the stuff. No rushing you. When you are done you are taken care of and your next dish is not thrown at your table. On top of that she was training someone. Also like that they have a chef's table.
My friends and I wanted to try this place since we moved here. It did not disappoint. The ambiance, the service, and selections were top-notch. The food was fabulous. The starter bread was fresh with a hint of sweet. I went with the shrimp and grits topped with crumbled chorizo...uhm yum! My entree was the flounder - a special - with scalloped potatoes, and seasoned vegetables. I was too full to finish, but enjoyed my leftovers for breakfast the next day (don't judge!). I have to say the oreo cookie pie selection for dessert was the one thing I didn't enjoy, but the homemade ice cream totally made up for it. Be aware, parking is limited. I wholeheartedly recommend this place! Enjoy.
A gem in our city. My comfort zone is more sports bar than pallet cleansing sorbet but I'll make an exception any day if The Mabry House is an option. I've visited numerous times in their 20+ year history and never had a bad experience. The atmosphere is pleasant and quiet, the wait staff is always on point and the food NEVER disappoints. The apple balsamic salad and duck are my go-to's but on the visits where they weren't on the chef's menu that evening; my alternative quickly became another favorite. Ginger is a delightful lady and eager to visit at your table and make you feel welcome. There are other very good restaurants in town but none better.
This place has such a welcoming and wholesome atmosphere to it. The restaurant is in an old Victorian home and it reminds me of going to a grandmother’s house where you know you’re going to eat the best food. The place is decorated with personal pictures so you already feel like family. My husband and I love all of the staff and the owners are always so good to us. We get the same thing every time to the point Joey, Sarah, and Daniel know our orders without asking. Great wine and alcohol selection. Chef Steve and Ginger put magic in that pecan chicken to make it so addicting, I am certain of it! If you ever have the opportunity to do the Chef’s Table I HIGHLY recommend it! Wish I had more pictures of the food but I am too focused to eat it!
To start off, I messaged the Mabry House on Facebook the day we'd planned a trip to Shreveport asking if there was going to be anything available. Ginger Mylar (Chef Steve's lovely wife) responded promptly, asking me to call at 3:30 to see if there were any cancellations. We called, they put us on the list and after getting a flat tire on the interstate, setting us back about 45 minutes, they called and said they had something ready by 7:30. We couldn't make that so I asked if 8:00-8:15 would work. They said that's fine!! I was so thankful since I'd been really excited to show this place to my wife. All the reviews that I'd read were amazing. So we get there to this historic and elegant victorian house, the hostess hangs up my coat and seats us next to eachother, not across, in front of a candle that says "Chandler 2". We started out with the snails. Best snails I've ever had. My wife tried them, loved them. Then on to the Ginger-Carrot-Crab Bisque, and a pear salad for my wife. To die for. I ordered the Rack of Lamb, and my wife got the crab cakes. They really were hefty portions and that was one thing I was worried about being 6'4'' 225 lbs., I like to get full. It was plenty of food and so creatively plated. It was beautiful.
It was a wonderful experience. Staff is very friendly and the service is outstanding. I cannot brag about the food enough, absolutely delicious. We were not disappointed. We already have our next reservation. Cannot wait to go back. Please do not hesitate. This is now my favorite fine dining restaurant.
One of our favorite places to go. Excellent service and staff. Pricing is very competitive for fine dining. Highly recommend
The food is extraordinary, the chef is sotalented, and the service is normally equallyawesome. Last night we did our first Chef'stable with 6 of us. We were all really excitedand had been waiting for weeks. The food andwine were exceptional. 10 minutes into ourevening the waitress knocked over a litcandelabra in my direction and when she tried to catch it, I was sprayed with hot wax from my neck to my lap. I was shocked. I wasn't injured, but my clothes were completely ruined. The waitress apologized but she never told either owner or acted like it affected her too much at all. I got up and went to the ladies room. I found the owner and told her what happened and thatmy clothes were ruined. I told her if sheneeded time to think about how to handle itthat's fine and we continued dinner. Theowner came to the table and said Porters Cleaners would clean my clothes. I told her I wasn't interested in getting them cleaned, white wax on black and dark indigo jeans isn't comingout without discoloration. She abruptly leftthe table and never returned. They changedour waitress out. Later I told the waitress ifshe'd relay to the owner that if she wanted togive me cash for my clothes in the amount of$150 that was fine, and the matter was done.No one ever acknowledged the issue again, and when we left they were standing at thedoor and played like I wasn't covered in waxwith no apology. This is disappointing as about$1500 was spent that night, and much moreover the years as we celebrated many events.I spoke to the owner the next day. I left her a message and she called me back. She didn’t want to reimburse me for my clothes and insisted on seeing receipts. She then told me our group was “interesting” and told me she really didn’t care about my business because she had a long waiting list. She also overcharged us by $350 even though the friend who was treating us to dinner called the chef and confirmed pricing. I don’t recommend this restaurant and apparently neither do her former employees who have messaged me privately and told me she is very unkind to her kitchen staff. This is the most unprofessional experience I’ve had at a restaurant. I’ve never been so insulted in my life.Ginger, as I mentioned, your staff member nearly set me on fire pushing over a lit candelabra in my direction. Luckily she caught it seconds before I was completely showered in hot wax from chin to my lap. You continue to not get the fact that replacing my clothes is the least of your worries. You are either too stupid or too crazy to understand that very generous offer made by me to let you replace my clothes for a very small amount of money is minimal we could’ve all been very injured. Yet you continue to want to do things your way and not make the customer happy. Seriously how ridiculous are you asking for clothing receipts when we could be talking about a major lawsuit for injuries. What you should’ve done is apologize first and foremost, comped my meal, and then asked me what the dollar value of my clothes were, rather than me having to come to you. You showed zero interest in my welfare and then proceeded to make fun of me and my companions concluding with telling me you don’t need our business because you have a “long waiting list” referring to me as “Sweetheart”, and hanging up on me. I’ve heard no apology from you at all and we are way past Porters Cleaners. I’m not sure what you’re smoking to think I’m going to let you have anything to do with my clothing or donate my clothes to you. You are delusional and severely out of touch with reality. I suggest you consult a therapist immediately.
An incredible dining experience last evening. Such delicious hand-crafted food and with impeccable service. And a beautiful setting in a beautiful historic mansion. A very special treat every time.
Met friends at Mabry House and had an exceptional dining experience. The savory cheesecake to start with, and the duck, were both terrific. I had the grilled veggies and risotto for my main course, which was filling and flavorful. The rest of my table all had the fresh fish of the day, which was red snapper. The staff did a perfect job and made us all feel welcome and appreciated.
