Whenever we come home to visit family and friends we always make a way here! Our food is always superb and outstanding! Hope it continues to prosper!
I visited this restaurant for the first time a couple of weeks ago--I ordered the philly cheesesteak sandwhich. My order was delivered promptly and the A1 sauce was the cherry on top of a bomb sandwich!!!! I would defintely recommend if you want to try a local spot.
The Monkhouse Seafood spot has some great fish. The location is at first hard to find due to being attached to a motel but it is worth the trip.
Right near the airport and it was our first stop after 3 weeks in the northeast we were ready for some great southern food. This was our first time there, but will not be the last. You order at the counter but this is certainly not fast food. This is delicious home cooking. My wife had the special of hamburger steak and gravy with rice and a side of yams. I had chicken gizzards, blackeyed peas and greens. Delicious. The food gets 5 stars but the atmosphere keeps me from giving them 5 stars. But I went for great food not atmosphere and that’s what we got.
Was sent to this place by a hotel clerk across the street from the Hampton Inn. . African American fish place and does not look like much from outside. We were the only anglos in the place and felt very welcome. We got excellent service. Owner came over and showed me how to get the bone out of the catfish. Get everything with the whole catfish order. These folks know how to cook fish and would go back in a minute. Give them an A++++++++.
Very good food. Make sure to try the stuffed shrimp. Service fresh and hot. Employees were very nice and friendly.
This restaurant hides there steak dinner under SPECIAL! You get a 6-7 oz steak cooked and seasoned perfectly with a salad, vegetable and potato. It was reasonably priced and cooked to perfection. The owner came around to make sure we were satisfied!
It was very tasty and I believe that I would go back. I had the fried fish and shrimp and it came with french fries. The best part was the carrot cake!
We tried this place because we were staying in the area because we did not want to drive for long and was in the walking distance. There was only one person in the entire dining area to take up all the orders and serve and handle the payments. Hence it was very slow so the server put the botted water we asked for on the house. But the food was good. Cole slaw is tasty. I did not like the fried oysters cause it had a weird taste. The clientele were mostly locals.
Small restaurant attached to and old hotel. It probably was like a hotel restaurant in the past. They serve good soul food items at a decent price. The menu has quite a few options in the old southern cooking type mold and is prepared old style. You can taste the various seasonings from when you where growing up visiting Granny in the country. The only reason I give only a 3 was because I experienced an issue with cold french fries and the tartar sauce was well over seasoned. Some regular style tartar sauce would have been much better in my opinion.
