My wife and I are slow food enthusiasts from New York. Yesterday we stopped in Fertitta’s and tried their Muffy sandwich. Years ago my wife had read about them, so when we planned our recent trip to Louisiana we knew that we needed to stop here. Wow! They did not disappoint at all! Their signature sandwich, The Muffy, was delicious beyond compare! The perfect bread to glorious meat, cheese and olive relish ratio. The Olive relish was not overly salty like you typically imagine olives to be, nor was it swimming in olive oil. The atmosphere was amazing. You just don’t see much history like this anymore, even in NYC. But the best part were the people. Agatha and her son run the deli. She has owned the business 42 years. Her son, Patrick, was a pastor in Alabama for several years but after his step-father recently died he moved back to help his mother run the deli. What awesome people. They are willing to bend your ear with stories about their family and history. It’s beautiful to see people who still have such a connection with their past generations. You also feel the warmth of love radiating from this place, it’s people and it’s food. They’ve been there in the same spot for almost 100 years now and I have no doubt that they will be there another 100 years.
The atmosphere was adorable!!! I have lived here 19 yrs and finally stopped in to get a "muffy!"I was so disheartened after taking a bite... I had to open it up to see if there was bologna in it~ gave it to my husband without saying a word & he too opened it up to see if there was bologna inside.... The meat looked cheap like the kind kids bought in the cheaper packages from the grocery store when we were in college... Real bummer ?
I remember the awesome Muffeletta's served at Fertitta's as a kid so I was excited to visit when I came home.....I was so disappointed, they now serve a fried baloney sandwich and call it a muffeletta...just awful!
This is a great place to eat a good muffaleta, the best muffaleta! Great atmosphere, very cozy and very welcoming service..
I would consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur of meatball subs, and let me tell you. This restaurant has one of the best meatball subs I've ever tasted. The sauce is excellent, the meatballs are tender and cooked perfectly, and the bread is toasted to perfection. 10/10, I know they have other sandwiches which my friends have recommended but every time I go i can't get past the meatball.
Been enjoying this great Italian restaurant since 1961 and always stop in when in town these days since I moved away from Shreveport.

Great sandwiches made by real Sicilians. Mom was there making hot food in real time and the son at the register.
We eat at Fertitta’s all the time. Its amazing! Just purchased the balsamic vinegar and its fabulous on strawberries and vanilla ice cream!
