Where do we start...? There was 20 minutes from seating before a waitress took our drink orders. We were informed that none of the draft beers were available. 30 minutes later the waitress informed me that they were out of my drink selection. Everyone else has already received refills at this point. 15 minutes later, the salads were brought out... over a 15 minute period. Before the last salad was brought out, we were informed that they were out of lettuce, 5 minutes later, they miraculously found lettuce. The wrong steak was given to one person and all of the 4 steaks were not cooked anywhere remotely close to the doneness requested. The Asiago grits had the consistency of corn bread and looked like a scoop of high school mashed potatoes. Shrimp was undercooked. Both, the citrus salmon and blackened redfish were seasoned exactly the same. We were comped 30% on our meal, but I will never recommend that anyone ever eat here... ever. The photo is of the "citrus salmon" and "Asiago grits". This is an embarrassing plate. After reading the other recent reviews, I am going to make a suggestion that I normally don't, "Cut your losses, this business WILL fail, close your doors and give someone else, that hopefully knows what they are doing, a chance to utilize that building. Your restaurant sucks and will not get better".
I can't speak to the quality of the food, but if the service is any indication, it's probably pretty bad. We sat for 10 minutes without a waitress even taking a drink order. This was 3 PM on a Saturday and not very busy at all. On top of that, the main item we came for (the crabby tomato) was no longer on the menu. Actually, it was on the website menu, but not the actual menu in the restaurant. Glad we only drove an hour. We left and went elsewhere. We never saw our actual waitress.
I wanted to love this place.... the atmosphere was energetic and the live music was pretty good but very loud. My steak and husband's steak was well done/overdone and dried out. Kids food was great. Shrimp Massey and Cheese Fries for apps were amazing!!! The waitress kept all our drinks full. She was awesome. The mens bathroom was disgusting and the ladies bathroom was just a little under kept. Everyone was friendly and the place was easy to find.
Food was decent, but the staff was amazing! We had a large party and we decorated the section we were in for a party (which was definitely inconvenient). Our waitress was very sweet and VERY patient! 5 stars for that alone! ?
I had an 8 oz filet with green beans and salad. The good: My green beans were delicious. The salad could have used a bowl instead of a plate, but was reasonable. The vinaigrette was a bit overly oily for my taste, but not in a major way. My filet, however, was quite subpar. The chef cooked it perfectly. It was simply a third-rate cut of meat. This made what could have been a slightly above average meal decidedly mediocre. One does not expect to order a filet mignon and get a thread of connective tissue down the middle throughout the entire steak.
Read the recent reviews, they are true! Highly dissatisfied with food, service, and definitely the value. I will start off with the extremely small portions. We would have taken a picture of the portions but we convinced ourselves that it was a miss understanding and they brought us food off the kids menu, until the bill arrived. I was referred to the shrimp tacos by our server. When they arrived, it looked like tacos you would get off the dollar menu at Taco Bell but with two small shrimp on each taco. So how did they taste, barely eat able. Cost: $7.00 each. Update: I only ate these two tacos and became ill about 3 hours later. My wife ordered the low country shrimp and grits. Not even a full packet of instant grits and 4 small/medium shrimp. Cost: $22.00. I could keep going but I posted a copy of the receipt for your viewing. After asking the waitress to speak with the manager about the post tax tip and credit card charge she became very aggressive and couldn't believe that we would have a problem with our outrageous bill. After speaking with the manager, it came to light that they were having severe staffing issues due to the new owner. This was a place I have had many client meetings and recommended to numerous people, but never again. I will never step foot in this place again.
DO NOT WASTE TIME EATING HEREComing from an employee who has been here a while this is hard to say. Portico used to be my favorite place to eat and would recommend it to everyone I knew. Recently that has changed. After the new owner ship everything has been downhill and become a miserable work space. I’m the past two month after being bought the new owner is all about making money. Shifts have been cut, extra credit card charges have been added to tickets causing less tips for servers, if servers are lucky enough to make money they can no longer take home tips they make on the night they make them, extra stress has been added onto all of the staff. And food wise this is just embarrassing. This restaurant used to serve high quality and great tasting food and I would eat there all the time. The owner has cut the quality of food switching to cheap ingredients while at the same time increasing the price for the meals. You can just see the disgusting textures of new ingredients and literally taste your money going down the drain. Food we serve should be only worth half of what it cost. PORTICO IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY ANYMORE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE.
The first time I went I got the fish tacos and they were good. The second time I went it wasn’t as good. I ordered the shrimp poboy with fries. Food was cold, mainly due to the fact I was sitting across from the kitchen and saw my plate sitting there being talked over by staff instead of being brought out and the shrimp weren’t fried well.
Waitress told us the soup was corn and crab, when it came out it was tomato basil. I asked her about it and she insisted it wasn’t tomato, I know the difference! It was red and chunks of tomato in it! Not white and creamy with corn and crab! Waitress had an attitude and I don’t believe in making a scene, I just won’t go back.
The family was in town for a college BB game. We traveled from east Texas to see the game. We picked this restaurant from some of its reviews. We arrived for the lunch hour and their were other small groups there. We got our menus and sat ourselves . The waitress took our orders and the food was at our table in about 15 mins. The food was good and hot. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and it was delicious. The place clean and the waitress was professional. Next time we are in town which will about 2 years , I would eat here again.
