Vals has a laid-back and modern atmosphere and a good happy hour drink menu offered 4-6 pm every day. Indoor and outdoor seating are available but if you are prone to mosquito bites, you might get bitten even indoors since the front door is open (I left with several fresh mosquito bites). The bartenders have good pours and the tortillas were tasty and fresh. The tacos had plenty of meat but the flavor was a bit lacking. I also prefer a bit more leche on my Tres Leches, still good though.
The food is so good! I’ve had the tacos, a sandwich special with pork and guacamole, the chips, everything is great. But the elotes are my favorite. The Vals margarita is pretty great too!
I love coming here for happy hour when the weather is good. (They do have some seats inside just in case it isn't.) They make great tostadas with different toppings every time (depending on what's in season). We brought our dogs once and they were very accommodating. You can get takeout drinks from the window, but the happy hour price is only for dine-in.
I CAN NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Bartender put an automatic 20% on a bill less than $30 for 2 people who had 1 drink and some small lame food! This should always be a customer's choice based on service and it was not worth 20%! Ignored, ego attitude, even saw him be a bit rude to his staff. This is a waiter's SCAM. Even if they point to it on a bill, they are banking on people not to pay attention, then people are used to leaving a tip and its an entry line on the receipt. When people want to leave, they may not read every line of a receipt. Supposably 30 min wait, 'short staff' excuse. Please, there were plenty of open tables. Bar chairs are uncomfortable cheap plastic, they served you in plastic frisbees. Seriously not impressed! Food was not that great either. Basic. Don't be fooled by the atmosphere or the '30 min wait' trying to give an impression of importance! BASIC, POOR SERVICE AND YOU MIGHT GET SCAMMED out of more money!
We didn’t get it….$9 for chips & any type of dip. Tijuana salad sounded wonderful but it turned out to be a white lettuce Caesar salad. Just awful. Drinks $11. They gave the dog at the next table a bowl of water in the exact same bowl as my salad.Gross. I left the salad. Small tacos $4 each. 20% tip included regardless of the service. After $34 of chips we left hungry. if you are pretentious & Want to be seen at a concept restaurant this place is for you…. But eat before you go.

Best elote in the city. Well made margaritas ($11-12) and solid tacos. The fish taco and sweet potato taco were particularly good
Pretty sure this has quickly become one of my favorite happy hour spots in the city. The tacos are great! Really enjoy the fish tacos a lot. Also love their salsa combo of the red and green varieties. Very into the stuff they put on the rim of their margs too

Good (street/small) tacos for the price. No meal check, no napkins or silverware/utensils offered when tacos showed up. The "Val's margarita was in a small rocks glass and not worth $11.00 I'd probably come back for happy hour for a better value. Heads up...20% service charge on every bill!!! Like they deserve it EVERY time!? A bit brazen to do that for 1 person bill.
