The food was great between the four of us we had the seafood Gumbo, Shrimp Po Boy, potato salad, French fries and cornbread. Everything was outstanding and our server Salina was awesome as well. We are from Philadelphia, PA in town for The Annual Session of Lott Carey, a global Christian Missional Organization.
The ambiance is nice and there was live cajun music while we were there which was great. The service was good but lets talk about the food. To start we got the Mulate's smothered fries, which were crinkle cut fries topped with a gray with tender roast chucks and a slightly spicy white queso. The sauces were good but the fries were obviously frozen and were just like the ones I can pick up at the grocery store. For my entree I ordered the fish of the day which was snapper that came topped with a creamy shrimp sauce with green beans and mashed potatoes as sides. The fish was seasoned perfectly with cajun spices and also cooked perfectly. The cream sauce was yummy but the shrimp in it was extremely mushy and no doubt frozen maybe even after cooking then heated up again. The texture of the mashed potatoes were gummy and I would guess somewhere longer than yesterdays potatoes. The green beans had nice chunks of bacon but were obviously canned. I know this is a touristy place but as it represents the area and I am a local, I'm extremely disappointed in the execution of the food. I would not recommended it to tourists or locals. It's not fresh and lacks enthusiasm.
We had a large party, all of who love good Cajun food - service was very good but some of the most disappointing food from a well known Cajun restaurant. The appetizers, poboy and bread pudding were good. The etoufe and gumbo were terrible. Wrote to them on messenger to keep it private and got no response. I would not go back.
Anniversary
The food seemed a bit expensive but everything was delicious! I was hoping for a more lively Jydeco band too!
The family really enjoyed dancing to the live band.
We had an awesome time. The food was perfection and the service was great. When I visit New Orleans again, I will be sure to return to Mulate's!
Iâm not a fan of the jambalaya, but the spinach dip was pretty good. My family had boudin, which they said good also.
Our server could not have been nicer. We got to listen to some live music and had just a great time.
Our food was fantastic. Service was a little slow, but that is my only negative comment. Live music was great.
