Please, please stop at Mahogany Jazz Hall if you're in New Orleans. I found it to be a very tasteful and classy venue. Took me back to a bygone Era. My group of 3 had a total of about 17 drinks and we spent about $320 - including a $100 dollar tip. The bartender Wade was charming, funny and earned the tip. I know several have posted that they are pushy with the drinks. That was definitely not my experience and I was there from about 930pm to 1am. I do agree that if you want front row seats arrive way before 930pm.
Small place with great music and friendly staff. The acoustics are great. This is a must visit for jazz lovers visiting New Orleans.
This jazz hall has it all. An amazing hostess/owner (Kate), wonderful bar tender (Garland), and more musicians than you can shake a stick at. The drinks are top notch and everyone is super friendly. Don't waste your time on Bourbon Street, spend the evening here and you won't regret it.

Amazing musicians but felt hustled by pushy server for more and more drinks. This was my first experience in a jazz club. And seeing amazingly talented musicians right in front of us was electrifying. I am a fan for life and those people deserve their tips.Server was a whole another story. I understand that club needs to make money and I would be happy to pay admission price. Instead i was being forced to pay for drinks I didn’t want due to obscure rules. Ended up with $60 worth of alcohol for listening to music. A rip off if you ask me.
I found this place on my last day in NOLA and I'm sad I hadn't found it sooner. It was everything you could want in a jazz bar. Small, quaint, cute, with amazing staff and incredible cocktails. And the MUSIC!!!!It gets busy so get there early to get a good seat. I had an absinthe drink that was interesting but tasty, and a coffee. The band played amazing tunes and halfway through a fellow musician popped by with an instrument and the band pulled him on stage. They all played together as if rehearsed and the energy they exuded was just incredible.I will definitely go all the way back to NOLA for this bar alone.
Lovely space for jazz and drinks. Loved my Sazerac. The back room is a nice seating area with very cool decor.
How can you not fall in love with this place! Great drinks too! Jamil Sharif tonight just rocked the house! What a fun place! Did I mention great drinks!?
You can be the judge, if I was wrong. I did go inside the bar with my outside drink. Please keep in mind, the bouncer let me inside. I had just purchased a drink from a bar on Bourbon Street. I was traveling alone, so I was pacing myself. I went in Mahogany Jazz Hall with the intentions of relaxing and enjoying some live music. The server, Carla, was uncomfortably aggressive with me. She insisted I throw my drink out, even though I insisted I was going to get another “after this one” ( the one from another bar). She told me, I needed to either finish it (3/4 Hurricane), or rid of it. So, I ordered a shot of rum so that I didn’t mix my alcohols (Hurricane has Rum in it). She still insisted I throw out my foreign mixed drink. I’m BIG on tipping, and I was going to give her a tip for bringing out my shot of rum, but her attitude was intense, so I decided against it. The band, the bar tender who poured me a free water, and the other server who poured me a free water all received a tip. Was I wrong for not tipping the initial server, Carla? Mind you she was very demanding and aggressive with me. I don’t want to play the race card, but I pay close attention, and she didn’t give that energy to anyone else, so yeah. The music was great, but there was one server who was slightly aggressive in her approach. I stayed, and enjoyed the great live band, but I didn’t deal with her only the others.
Highly skilled musicians and bartenders here ! There is the greatest selection of absinthe of Nola. The cocktails are really tasty and well balanced !This is real Dixieland jazzzz in this bar. If you want to hear some music typically from New Orleans, you'll love that experience !I would just suggest to the bar to use one big ice ball instead of mutiples small ice cubes. The ice ball would melt slower and allows the cocktail to preserves his taste more longer...Thanks to Winks and all the staff !
