Tried this place for lunch. Got the blackened chicken Greek salad. Not sure chicken was blackened but it was good. Would have like more lettuce/salad to the meal but it was good. Hole in the Wall place for sure. Iced tea was fresh & the beer was cold.
Being the NCAA Final Four weekend, there were long lines for breakfast in most restaurants. My wife and I happened upon Estrella, a steak and lobster house that had no long lines and got seated in 10 minutes. It is a small restaurant on Decatur in the French Quarter. It is not just the food that makes eating in a restaurant a memorable experience. I noticed the owner Amer working frantically and also engaging the patrons. I jokingly said that he should relax and sit down with us and that I would buy him a glass of wine. He immediately got himself a bottle of water and sat down with us and we had a nice long chat, including Sarah our server who was his niece and was just helping out. We discussed world views and left as happy, satisfied customers.
Steak was delish, but had to send back to be cooked properly but was tender.Baked potato not done all the way and was cold in the middle.I believe it was cooked previously and sat out or refrigerated then warmed up briefly..The waitress had a very ahh whatever attitude when we told her about the potatoes. When they came back out within 2 minutes..not new hot potatoes..same ones with all the topping melted like sour cream..gross..Seemed the microwaved it.The extra you pay for the wine mushroom sauce although tasted good had LITERALLY two thin slided mushrooms..I wouldnt call that mushroom sauce.Ironically something I asked about before ordering and got the response its mushroom sauce so yeah it would have mushrooms..haha what a joke..I asked for more mushroom sauce with my steak being cooked correctly and the potato issues..It came back same amount of sauce and same two slice mushrooms..Also be aware all menus are different priced..you may even think your not in the same restaurant as pictured online..Its a bar that serves over priced food..$40 each but bar type service
I came here on my birthday, the Day after Mardi Gras and got the best service ever. The owner Amir was very welcoming to the point where I almost felt like I was in his home. The waitress Julia was so cool and she was from Michigan also so we really connected and she literally gave the best service ever. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Great food. Amazing vibes and I will definitely be back. Thank you for making my birthday special!
Randomly stopped in and was very pleasantly surprised to have a neat place, great service and an outstanding brunch. We had the Cajun omelette and the shrimp and grits. Cajun omelette was great and the shrimp and grits pretty good. Bloody Mary was excellent
Terrible experience. As soon as we sat down the waiter made it known that our would be delayed because there was a part of 12 that comes first. The food was tasty but overcooked and cold. I ordered shrimp and grits. The grits were cold and hard. We waited over an hour to get our food and when my husband complained to the owner he said “well then you shouldn’t have come in” The owner was hitting the Jameson and beer hard the whole night. we were there for over two hours. My husband got food poisoning from a pasta lobster dish. Never again
We are from Louisiana and had a seminar in New Orleans. Went walking in the quarter on Saturday morning and was looking for a place to eat breakfast. Several places had long lines and we stumbled into Estrellas and we couldn’t have found a better place. Small , quaint local bar with tables. The Bloody Mary , coffee and mimosas were really good. The Cajun omelette was excellent and the shrimp and grits were pretty good. Service was outstanding and the owner walked around checking on tables. Definitely coming back !!
My husband and I have eaten here many times before --- years ago, when it was Star Steak and Lobster. The food was always delicious and kept us going back. BUT OMG!!! On March 9, 2022 - We had to leave - NEVER to Return!! Two rats came out from near the bar area toward the dining tables. My husband had to stomp at one as we gathered our things to leave. Before we reached the front door— another RAT sighting!! The waiter told us that it was NORMAL!! Normal??? Ok- Bye!! If you're okay with possibly dining with rats, go and enjoy the food. We just couldn't do it.
Chris, the server was attentive and good. The Bloody Mary was great. The brunch ? Not so much. The poached egg was cooked straight through, on a very small and very burnt biscuit. Shrimp and grits was fine. It was fast and had good points (e.g. service and drinks) so giving 3 stars.
We walked into what appeared to be a bar/restaurant. We were in for a shock. Service by our waiter Chris was top notch And the food was out of this world. We were in NOLO for five days. Ate at top rated restaurants. Yet this little place was the best meal start to finish. Perfect Caesar salad and the best filet we have had in years. And a chocolate mousse cake that was shear perfection. I told the chef, Thomas, my only regret was finding this incredible eatery on our last night not our first !!
