The Dry Dock Cafe is in Algiers is a short ride across the Mississippi River. If you come over on the ferry it's one of the first things you see, and the burger is one of the first things you should get when you go in. The menu is varied and everything from the kitchen looked good! The place itself has that lived in feel like it's been there forever and a decor of things the proprietor has collected over the years. It's a great out of the way stop on your trip to New Orleans. A place to slow down and have a satisfying bite to eat while you recover.
We went in this pub to get out of the torrential rain and we’re made very welcome even though we only had coffee and cake. The waitress was friendly without being overwhelming and the local clientele were fun also. Although we didn’t have food the simple menu looked good. Recommended
My husband and I live in Algiers and frequent the Dry Dock and always refer people that way when in town. That will change after last night. I called at 7:57 p.m. and a female answered and I place an order for pick up for 2 chicken tenders with fries for my kids for dinner. She told me it would be 10-15 minutes. 20 minutes later I show up and say to the female behind the bar that I am here to pick up a to go order. She seemed confused and did something at the register then without speaking laid a receipt on the bar in front of me for 1 order of tenders. I said no, I called and placed an order for 2 tenders with fries and she said I did not call. She argued with me about it yelling at me that I did not call and speak to her. asked me what number I called so I told her and she went to the caller ID and even READ MY NUMBER BACK TO ME OFF OF IT.. and I said yes that's me and she said well you didn't speak to me did you speak to a male or female and I said female and she continued to yell saying I did not speak to her when clearly I did. She seemed like she was high on something. I told her to forget it. the poor cook came out and tried to ask what it is I wanted to order but was trying to talk over her being loud and rude and I left. WE WON'T BE BACK.
The place should probably be called a bar, rather than a cafe. Muffaletta I had was very tasty, but the service left a bit to be desired. If it was to create a bit more relaxing and attentive environment, I think it could become a destination for those who are visiting French Quarter.
It was okay. Nothing to brag about. It's old, as everything else, not kept well maintained, aesthetics leave much to be desired, as most of the homes in the vecinity. The food was so so, again, nothing to brag about. Prices seemed okay, but again, we are used to San Francisco, California prices.
$12.95 for 6 drumettes. Draw your own conclusions.
The Dry Dock Café is in Algiers, a few minutes ferry ride from downtown NO and a short walk from the dock. The have inside and outside seating, but because it was very windy, we chose to sit inside. Service was extremely slow; the Shrimp au Gratin (special of the day) was very good, so was the shrimp PoBoy (lots of shrimp); there were lots of fries, but they were lukewarm; Cole slaw was good. The hamburger was overcooked, but tasty, onion rings good, but also not hot. the 1/2 shrimp and 1/2 oyster platter were deep fried and very tasty. Be aware: if you are sitting at the same table with your friends, there is NO splitting checks!
Nice hangout place. Right in Algiers Point. Good people watching with ferry station across the street
I went on a weds evening in February 2022. It wasnt busy and sat at the bar. It took me 10 minutes to get the bartender to stop flirting with the waitress to take my drink order a Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned. He went back to flirting and eventually came back and made my "Old fashioned" using well bourbon and way too much syrup poured over ice... no shaking or stirring.. I ordered Nachos and a burger medium well. Figured that would be hard to mess up for a pub food bar. The nachos came 25 minutes later and were cold and greasy. The burger came 45 minutes later and was charred almost to a crisp. I complained to the server and got a stink eye. It wasnt a good experience. Suprising as last time i came (2013 in think) it was decent. And the reviews are ok. Whoever runs this place needs to pay more attention . Its slipping..
Cute Little corner bar. Great lady bartending. Bar food... French dip good. Burgers good. Ok Shrimp poboy. Have had better. Catfish was decent but you only get 1piece. Good place to have a drink but I'd search elsewhere for better food. In a pinch it'll do.
