Great place at the end of a walk, and a classic locals place. Although I am sure tourists find this place enough because of the trolley line terminus. Fun people drinking beers and enjoying fried local fare. Not overpriced!
Friendly bartenders, great food and atmosphere! A place for “locals”. A definite must on your list.
first time I ever had oysters they were awesome
Great Oysters some of the best in NO. Go there or be square.
Was recommended to us and worth it! We went on a Friday night and there where a lot of college students and a mix of other people, it was a pretty busy night. We got a slew of different foods to try. The catfish basket, a salad, oysters and boudin balls. The kitchen is separate from the bar and the oyster shucking is also separate from the food at the corner of the bar, so order all three in different places. I would recommend for the food! There are TVs on every wall so good for sports watching even though that is not what we were there for. Also, two bars for easier drink access.
Cooter Browns is a New Orleans dive bar jewel. It’s been here long enough to be a generational destination with fathers and sons, mothers and daughters all seeking late night cheese fries and cold beer. Cooter Brown’s had an amazing beer selection long before it was hip and fashionable. In addition to varied and changing draft taps, there are innumerable bottles and cans from the far corners. If you can’t find a beer here, you aren’t really in the mood to drink.Additionally, the kitchen is on the level of many top tier poboy and seafood stops in NOLA. No I don’t work here or own part of it, I just appreciate it.
I was informed by the bartender, Joseph, that no one at Cooter Brown's much cares about these review sites, but I'm posting anyway, because he and Brendan were so charming, funny, & welcoming to this solo traveller. This was a fun walk from the Garden District, loaded with architectural eye candy, but I suppose you could take the streetcar. The shrimp po'boy was excellent, loved the slushy lemonade, & really just enjoyed the people & atmosphere so much I made the walk twice.
My review of the restaurants we've gone to we've gone to is always excellent because I am selective. I only go to good restaurants that I like . Cooter Brown's is a noisy, large, uptown uptown bar with a with a restaurant a and one of the best oyster bars in the city.. The oysters are freshly shucked when you order. It is noisy and loud but the oysters are just great don't let the apparent scare you away
I can't believe this spot has slipped me by before now! Perfect hideout bar with killer food and huge beer selection. Delightful staff! You MUST have the Irish Channel Special "sandwich"...best corned beef I've ever had. It was a surprise how it was fixed, more like a burger-BUT you gotta have it! Next time we go to Uptown, I will spend more than a few hours here watching a game & cutting up.
?? Great atmosphere with a large selection of beer on tap or in the coolers!
