Stayed here with my wife for 3 nights in May. On the positive side, the building itself was beautiful with 14-16 foot ceilings and very spacious verandas, beautiful trees and other flora. The common areas were very nice and inviting. Folks staffing the bar and coffee shop were great. The room we stayed in was nice although dark with a lack of good lighting throughout. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Bathroom and shower were nice but no shelf or space to place our toiletries. AC was fine (it was mid-90's and humid outside during the day). On the negative side, the elevator wasn't working and although one of the waiters from the bar helped my wife carry her luggage up to the top of the stairs, we had to make our way back down by ourselves when checking out. It was very dark in the corridor and we had to use our cell phone flashlights to figure the numbers on the doors to find our room. All in all, I wouldn't consider this a 4 star hotel and it wasn't worth the $390/night cost (including taxes). My wife really wanted to stay there and she loved it. But, I won't stay there again at that cost - maybe $225 would be more worth it.
Went to have a few drinks with friends after a concert. But upon entering the hostess said there will be no waiter to serve us and we have to sit outside. We went to the bar to get our own drinks and found out we can drink inside for we were the only people there and after some drinks and food. There were only 2 other table. Glad we did not listen to the hostess.
We went here for drinks between excursions on our New Orleans trip—one of our party had been here repeatedly and thought it would be a nice quiet spot. The drinks were pretty good, if a bit of a spin on what you typically expect for them! Fun, chill atmosphere with a cool feel. Bathrooms were clean and super funky/weird! Would go again.
Stunning beautiful lobby and bar. Delightful garden. It looks wildly expensive and perhaps exclusive from the gate, so you’ll be surprised how warmly you’ll be welcomed and very happy you came. You can come by for coffee in the morning and then lunch, dinner and drinks are available though the day. We make a point to bring out of town guests here…. Everyone LOVES it.We have only visited as locals on bicycles but a staycation beckons at some point in the future!
I think the hotel is beautiful, but most of my experience is with their hotel bar which I always visit when I'm in town. The atmosphere is perfect and I had the best gin & tonic of my life on a steamy New Orleans afternoon.
Was traveling alone and came by for snacks and a drink. The staff was so nice and the food and wine offerings were great. I could have asked for a spoon for the marinade that was on the tuna crudo… will definitely be back!
Good Greif! Go look at their reviews on Trip Advisor
The hospitality here is unmatched. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful. The food and cocktails will have you wondering when is too soon to return. Rooms give the right amount of old-school charm with modern amenities. 12/10 would recommend the Columns. Also, they host the best private parties/events!! If you're considering a brunch, birthday, or wedding look no further than Rachel at The Columns.
While I have always enjoyed The Columns, today they greatly disappointed me and many of their loyal customers. This hotel is conveniently located on St. Charles Ave., the famous Mardi Gras parade route. As they have for many years, The columns sold passes online to patrons who wanted to use the bathroom facilities there. The passes cost $25 for the day or $150 for the whole parade season. What the Columns neglected to tell these patrons was that the gates were closing after Rex, the first of three parades that day, had passed. Some families payed over $100 for a days bathroom privileges that abruptly ended with half of the day and two parades still left. There was positively no mention of this limitation on their website selling theses passes.I for one will never purchase these tickets again and many of our friends feel the new owners of The Columns have done a bad disservice to their long time patrons. Shame on them! They were quick to take the money, but sadly missing when his patrons expected what they paid for.
The Columns has always been a favorite spot. My family has stayed as guests, visited for a casual evening of drinks, and made it a central location for our family every Mardi Gras Day for the past 30+ years. It is very upsetting to give one star to a place that has always stood apart as wonderful and a place that I recommend to others. My experience on Mardi Gras Day has stripped me of the urge to recommend again. This week, my family spent more than $300 on “Mardi Gras Day Columns Passes”. This $25 wristband gained us access to the restrooms, inside bar and public patio area. What we learned that morning was it should have been called the “Mardi Gras Day Rex Pass”. Halfway through the first parade of the day, Rex, it was told to those going to the restroom, “FYI, the bathrooms will close when Rex ends because we want to give our employees a chance to enjoy Mardi Gras as well.” I was very confused, I appeared baffled, and was told, “I’m sure its on the website somewhere.” So maybe, just maybe, I did not read the fine print. I checked the hotel website…it still had the purchase option open on Mardi Gras Day after the restroom was closed (that's confusing). I checked the email confirmation I received from Resy. And I checked the ticket I was sent through Resy. The ONLY time listed was 8am….referring to when the restrooms would open. The only fine print referenced showing vaccinations and cancellation policies. Needless to say, we felt robbed. To advertise a Day Pass and shut down completely after the 1st parade (without mention in their advertisements) is simply bad business. The home of one of the best tasting Bloody Marys in town has left a very sour and displeased taste in my mouth.
