We had several meals that we split and all were amazing, but the fried oysters were outstanding, and should be a highlight in your meal. The brussels sprouts were amazing too.
ADD THIS YOUR DINING LIST RIGHT NOW! My absolute favorite and best dining experience in NOLA, hands down. Shout out goes to Mike, Jason & Dez for their 5 star service (and personalities!) We weren’t able to make a reservation last minute (better if you do in advance) but we sat at the bar and didn’t end up leaving until we’d done damage on their menu. Mike (Michael) is a superstar of a guy, he went out of his way to cater to us, made sure we were comfortable, gave the best recommendations and make us some killer drinks. He’s also a cocktail king. But where to start (other than I can’t sing enough praises about being seated at the bar with their finest staff members!) the food…. Chilli garlic Oysters…. Fried alligator… Rabbit & dumplings… Wow on wow. I’ve never had better Oysters in my life and as a first fine alligator eater, we took the word devour to next levels. Ended up ordering 2 portions because we couldn’t get over the deliciousness. On top of our mains & delicious drinks. It’s a delightful spot, and whether it be lunch or dinner, you can’t do NOLA without eating here. All the wows, I guarantee it :) Thank you again Mike, you’re one of the main reasons the restaurant is so charming! Jason & Dez, thanks for your lovely company & service too. We appreciated the laughs :) Till next time guys!
Excellent food, very pork-centric but that’s to be expected. It’s always crowded and reservations are a must. The portions are generous and I’d recommend sharing. While extremely highly caloric the fried oyster and slab bacon sandwich is a dream come true.
An amazing restaurant a little off the main NOLA tourist traps (still a bit pricey though). Great atmosphere, service, drinks (including nice beer selection) and absolutely fabulous food. I had the best gumbo of my life and fantastic gator bites. The rabbit with dumplings was also great, just a little killed with too much of black pepper. Now it breaks my heart to remove the one star, but the three tiny slices of the head cheese for 14 bucks were just ridiculous. Make it an appetizer for half price and still add at least one slice..
Things started off rough when one of the staff saw me struggling with my luggage and walked in right in front of me and didn’t hold the door. Once I was seated, my server, Paul, was attentive and kind. The dinner rolls were honestly some of the best I’ve had, though the butter wasn’t very flavorful. I ordered the catfish and grits, and though it filled my need for a light lunch, it was not very flavorful. Honestly…the nearby Cochon Butcher was much better at nearly half the price.
The pros: - Fried alligator was excellent, and a unique offering for someone like me from where they're unheard of - Service was friendly - Cocktails were great The cons: - My main, the cochon, as well as my side of macaroni and cheese casserole, were so salty they were nearly inedible. I was very disappointed after an excellent starter and drinks, and, for the price, these should have been much better; hours later and I'm still drinking water to compensate for the salt All in all, a pleasant atmosphere with great service but a very subpar product, especially for the price; certainly a big let down overall.
I enjoyed this restaurant . We shared entrees and food was good. Service was awesome! I had oyster sandwich, just not tried enough for me.
One star for the tasty alligator bites. Honestly this was so disappointing, after seeing this place on two of Anthony Bourdains shows and Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix, I figured it would be something to write home about. Sadly it wasn't. I had the catfish and Mac and cheese- the catfish was not seasoned well and the Mac and cheese was way too salty. I thought my meal was bad but my partners was 10x worse. He ordered the cochon for $28 and my god it would be better to buy a $2 carton of salt and eat spoonfuls of it instead, seriously. Our bill was $168 and probably the worst spend we've ever made (except for getting scammed into buying something on Facebook classifieds lol). Spend your hard earned money somewhere else!!!!
I was looking for some cozy table and the guy told me there were all reserved fact which I strongly understood, eventually they give us the worse table next to the entrance( my opinion they shouldn’t have set this table there) for the rest of the night the tables were staying empty :/ Restaurant has good vibes but 42$ for a pork full of fat was insane!! Other entries and starters were quite good!
Terrific menu and great choices. Food was mostly great. Skip the alligator appetizer but try the oyster appetizer and the crawfish pie. Redfish entree was excellent. Service was top notch. Prices are steep but worth it.
