Awesome dinner as always. Made reservations at the last minute and they accommodated us right away and then when we arrived we were seated right away. Steaks, creamed spinach, asparagus and so much more was perfect. Our waiter Travis was the best! Seeing Glenn Bove made our night extra special.
TERRIBLE SERVICE AND OWNERS. Their Google times do not reflect their accurate times and the service is TERRIBLE. After calling, and giving my ETA, and driving almost 30 minutes away, I was made aware that I could and would be seated. I arrived 3 minutes before my stated ETA. My family arrived, and was turned away. The owner, whom I was recently made aware of, recommended two other restaurants and did absolutely nothing but sit there at the bar. ALL OF THIS BEFORE 9:00 PM (Google states they close at 9:30). The bartender/manager told the hostess not sit me and later proceeded to tell “do what you need to do”. Beyond unacceptable. If you are in need of a steakhouse, I’d recommend Ruth Chris or Desi Vegas. If you’re looking for a local steakhouse, I’d recommend Crescent City Steak House. If you want just want steak, but decent service, I’d recommend Texas Roadhouse, Outback, and Rivershack (steak nights on Thursdays). Anywhere but here.
The steaks are fantastic, their food is simple and perfectly honed. They have a small menu and amazing service. After dinner the BF and me needed a 2 hour nap prior to engaging in late night shenanigans. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. If you like steak, you NEED TO GO!!!
There are restaurants in New Orleans which are "legendary" whose names we've heard for years, other restaurants which are "perfect" in both their cuisine & focused attention on clientele, & some which are "soulful" in a way that can't easily be described in words but reinvigorate our senses of New Orleans family, neighbors, love, & the joy of living.Charlie's Steak House has the rare & uncommon distinction of being all 3!!Tonight, we were greeted by Kelly who gave us the immediate feeling of being 'home" & offered the gracious & fun hospitality of Sarah whose spirit was *as* delightful as our Old Fashioneds, steaks, crab au gratin, creamed spinach, & cheesecake *were* delicious!! Keith & Courtney contributed to the warmth of our incredible visit as well, & we enjoyed their presence greatly! And at the end of our amazing meal, it was almost an emotional challenge to depart this space which embodies the true Soul of New Orleans!!Treat yourselves to the very BEST of our City's dining & hospitality--treat yourselves to a wonderful evening at Charlie's!!
First time there and it was great. My 32 oz t-bone was way undercooked but was still really good. I had a few bites of my wife's ribeye and it was amazing. I will definitely get that next time. The side dishes were delicious. I had the potatoes au gratin and my wife had the cream spinach. We both love them. Everyone on the staff was great from the minute we walked in. I definitely recommend it and I will be back.
This place easily had the worst steaks I've ever had. The first thing you should know is that THEY DO NOT SEASON ANYTHING. All they use is butter as to not alienate the geriatric old people that frequent the restaurant. I cannot express how terrible and unflavored the steaks were. A big chain restaurant will serve you better food than this place. The restaurant is nothing special, if anything a bit run down. The insides are very aged and looks like the inside of a school cafeteria in a way. I think old school decor can be done well, but it just felt like there were few efforts to upkeep the dining room from when it first opened. We were seated downstairs so the upstairs may be different. A ribeye(18oz!!) and a NY strip steaks were ordered a long with a "half order of onion rings", asparagus, and potatoes au gratin. This cost us in the ballpark of $130. The onion rings were piled very high, were very greasy, and were very thin. I would market them as noodles instead of rings. Nothing to really write home about. The asparagus was acceptable but then again, I expected something delicious, not simply acceptable. The potatoes au gratin were the same. They were also very oily and greasy for no reason, just like the onion rings. The ribeye steak was easily the worst steak I have ever tasted for the price($50!). Tough. It was ordered medium rare and the insides looked like mixed up raw ground beef. The ends were tough and it tasted bland. The NY strip steak was the same. It was essentially alive in the middle, and had no flavor. The plate it came on was filled with so much fat and even that somehow managed to taste like it had no seasoning at all! My girlfriend and I both felt sick after eating here and we suspect it was from the insides of our steaks being literally raw. I would not recommend this place to anyone and am very sad that I was unfortunate enough to think it would be a nice restaurant with good food. Do not go here. The prices are not worth the mediocre, bland, and raw "steaks".
Awesome steak and great sides! Service was fantastic.
I've been going to Charlie's since 1980, and it has never failed me. 5 stars are for the balance of Food, Service, and Old-School Atmosphere. My wife and I try to make NOLA every Thanksgiving and Charlie's is always on the menu during our visit. That is a lot to say, after all, it's NOLA, a foodie paradise. Covid has canceled our travel plans for the last few years, but looking forward to NOLA when they reduce Covid restrictions. Alabama
Great old school steakhouse. Limited menu but what they do….they do well. Service is always friendly and prompt. The crab at gratin is heaven. Also…very casual which is nice
Took my son and daughter-in-law to dinner. Not a showy place but very nice on the inside, white table cloths and professional wait staff. Steaks only on menu but several cuts. Sides were excellent. We had potatoes au gratin, cream spinach, and crabmeat au gratin, all very tasty. Had a good whiskey menu. We enjoyed it. A little off the beaten path, especially for tourist. Has its own parking lot.
