Had to experience the fresh beignets. TIP. Cash line to the left was faster. Line breaks into 2 lines. Left is faster but cash only. Right takes longer. We sat at a table after walking and enjoyed the live music.
What can I possibly add other than this nice photo ? The beignets are just fried dough with powdered sugar. I actually think their coffee is the real super star, but I might be in the minority. Don’t go to Nola and miss this stop. Go early, grab a table, listen to some music. You’ll like it!
To get your beignets much quicker, do not enter the seating area. Instead, place your order at the doorway right on Decatur (to the left of the seating area if facing Café du Monde)
Rode the trolley to visit the legendary Cage Du Monde yesterday. Can’t go to New Orleans without getting Beignets. The lines were crazy but they move fast. A wonderful treat to enjoy with friends. Powdered sugar everywhere. Bathrooms close at 6 so make sure you go before. Saw many beautiful horse drawn carriages while in line. Street musician made the wait more lovely.
Very tasteful brunch. Yummy!!!
Wow, so disappointing! We’ve come here for 30 years, our MO was to pop by, sit down, order coffee and Beignets, within a few minutes you have piping hot Beignets covered in powder sugar, then make sure you tip well. This trip, the normal sign is posted, choose a table and be seated, which we did. 15 minutes and still no server? I finally went up to the take out window and asked, I was told no more table service, you order at the take out window, get you barely warm Beignets in a paper bag, coffee in a to go cup and sit down. Total fail.
...this place knew how to make Beignets but no more. They are running on the past and either need to change or, hopefully, people will realize that they are not getting anything but a pile of dough dumped into hot oil. Burnt once but never again.
Did you know there is more than one Cafe DuMonde? We went to one in the city park and got their special powder-sugar coated pastries. Outdoor seating, minimal waiting. 30 minutes before we went there we saw line at the FQ location - at least 100 people in line!!! this is much better.
We previously visited pre-pandemic and returned this past weekend. It was a must when visiting New Orleans! What a let down! Lines were extremely long but would be worth it if the beignets were good. They used to make them to order, now they are premade and sitting in a box off to the side and taste stale and crunchy. The inside of the restaurant is closed off to customers and the staff act like they wish you would go somewhere else. Coffee used to be served in a mug, now the only option is from a styrofoam cup. No table service and the outside dining area is poorly tended to. Table tops were dirty, floor even dirtier and the trash is pulled and left out in the dining area, which made it all smell and look like you were eating from a dumpster. I will never, ever return--this restaurant needs to close.
Definitely worth trying! Takeout line was like 5 minutes but to dine in took forever Honestly take the donuts and go across the street to Jefferson square park and eat it there much nicer and quieter
