Highly recommended so we bought pineapple sausage and Steen sausage. They were okay. In a city where you can get absolutely delicious sausage, these were rather bland. If you don't like spicy or hot, these are the way to go.
Great Sunday barbeque and specialty meats
This local market specializes in custom cuts of meat and never fails to produce top quality meat and foods. My go to meat market in Lafayette.
Bravo!I didn't know where to get good piece of Pork in Lafayette that taste Country Pork from the old Day , don't go any where else that's the place : Tooksservice is excellent price are right and quality of the meat is high standard. Thanks again my Ham will be a success ..
I stock up on smoked sausage before I head back to Dallas each year. It tastes great in gumbo.
Took's is one of the best specialty meat markets in all of Cajun Country, and considering how many great meat markets we have that is a great compliment. The people who work here are ALL knowledgeable and can help you wish special requests. Try the Creole stuffed Chicken. It is by far my favorite thing at Took's. Go home and cook it as it is without adding anything to it. Ask the people at Took's how to cook it and follow their direction exactly and it will be amazing!
For over 30 years, Tooks has operated an out-of-the-way meat market int he heart of Lafayette, LA. Although it has also functioned as a local plate lunch location for as many years, that service does not appear on it's website. On M-F full plate lunches can be had for either dine-in (Only a few tables), but the majority is carry-out. Or as we say down here "to-go." We had been in the previous week when we discovered the many prepared meals frozen such as read beans and sausage, shrimp creole, and chicken and sausage gumbo (Highly recommended)along with creole stuffed breads, homemade sausages of all stripes as well as boudins. Turduckens, stuffed chickens with various cajun and creole mixtures. Along with the weekday plate lunches is also featured the Sunday BBQ. There is a strong Sunday BBQ tradition in this area, and it seems everyone thinks they can pull it off. Well, we have been disappointed by nearly all Sunday BBQ offerings....until Tooks. Each and every traditional accompaniment for Sunday BBQ, dirty rice, baked beans, and potato salad were all very good, but the chicken was superb! What was most surprising was the freshness of the chicken as we made out purchase at 1:15pm when the BBQ is offered only between 10-2 pm. These meals are big enough to satisfy even the most hearty appetite. In fact, one meal can easily feed two. We can't wait to try the ribs, pulled pork and other meat offerings. So if you are ever in Lafayette during lunch or on Sunday, this is a must stop. Finally, it's in the same large parking lot of one of the mega cinemas. So, it has date potential as well.
