Great atmosphere. Our waitress was the sweetest. I ordered the 2 meat and sides. The brisket was pretty good however the ribs I expected more the flavor just wasn’t there. This was first time here but I will give it another try.
Today was our second visit to this place, I was excited about writing a review because of how much I enjoys our first experience. It really is an unfortunate circumstance but I have to share. Upon arrival the hostess was very polite and accommodating (we had our two month old in the car seat). We order drinks and food, wife had the Cubano I had the BBQ plate with chopped brisket, we both were really excited about the variety of BBQ sauces. About the same time our food came out a gentleman came and sat in the lobby, who persistently hacked and coughed and then recalled the mucus or phlegm in his throat. Really hard to put into words, but as I was just getting into my meal I felt that instead of the delicious brisket I had a chuck of this guys sinus material in my mouth, if that sounds disgusting I apologize, but this is how I experienced my meal. I eventually just stopped eating finished about 15% of my brisket and had some of the sides. I had finished a beer waiting on food and when my second came out I was already beyond consuming anything. I heard another customer waiting to be seated mention “ thank god I’m not eating right now that’s disgusting “ and I think another table near us may have been affected. I made loud comments about how disturbing it was so as the hostess may hear me and perhaps ask the gentleman to wait outside, I contemplated complaining to someone but I just typically don’t do that. All in all I had a couple bites of my food the waitress asked if I wanted a to go plate I told her I lost my appetite and she took it away. I didn’t take a sip of my second $8 10oz beer at this point I was just completely over the whole experience. I don’t know the solution to this, but I did think afterwards if I worked there I would have asked the guy to wait outside. Again Mid City I hate to leave a negative review but I planned to review todays visit and I paid for a meal I couldn’t eat it… what would someone else do in this situation?? These are photos of our first visit about a month ago. It was good then and I’m sure I would have enjoyed it today if it wasn’t for the experience. Right after the waitress took away our food the gentleman received his order which he apparently was just picking up and left. May or may not go back this kinda ruined my vibe for the place:(
Fathers Day lunch.. the brisket platter with potato salad and beans. The brisket slices were 80% fat … very little digestible meat. What meat there was, was relatively flavorless. Potato salad had huge chunks of potato and was on the whole just boring. The beans were the best part of the meal and they were what I would call average. Expensive, low quality and uninspired.
Simply amazing best Bbq restaurant in Lafayette.
Brought my mom on Friday for a late Mother’s Day celebration. She had a rib plate, my son and I shared the whole hog, and the 3 of us shared banana pudding. Everything was delicious. The banana pudding reminded me of the homemade one we made with my dad as kids. The service was also great. We will be back soon!
Cute place and friendly staff. We were disappointed in that they ran out of grits, the one thing I was told to Absolutely try! The smothered beans were Awesome and everyone at my table was very pleased with their selections BUT DISAPPOINTED in NO GRITS( and we were there at 11:30!! For Sunday brunch)I will go back!!
The food was great it was just you were out of a few items on the menu this was our first time going with friends. We asked to put the lights on above us so we could see our plates to eat and the lights were broken the waitress told us which is understandable. Few items my wife asked for you were out of ribs, and she wanted to try a beer on the menu and it was out of stock also. I'm sure we will give this cozy place another try again real soon.
Stacey served our party of 4 very well. My wife and I enjoyed the Brisket Cheesesteake lunch special; the other couple the sliders. Barbecue was superb almost equalling TX! Great restaurant in Midtown.
I was convinced to go here by a friend. My response was, I live in Texas and you don’t go to Louisiana for bbq and I most certainly didn’t come to LA to try it. He kept on and I finally caved. I loved the house and atmosphere, and the staff were super hospitable! But let’s cut to the chase. The meat (I got dark chicken) was sub-par, cold, and tough, and the macaroni was gritty and almost bland. But the cornbread and baked beans were divine! I also ordered burnt ends for an additional $3 and I don’t know what those were but they weren’t burnt ends. They were these thick, rubbery, square pieces of meat but the flavor was good. I also think most people expect there to be fresh brewed tea at bbq joints but not here. All they had was bottled tea. Then as we were leaving, one of the cooks came to the back to unload some things from his car and we almost got high just walking past him, which makes me wonder about who was handling the food. You can see into the kitchen and watch them cook the food and I noticed no one was wearing gloves or any other food service accessory. This is why I’m giving 3 stars. So while the food wasn’t great, the service and surroundings were, and those alone would convince me to give them a second chance. Maybe next time I’ll order the pulled pork and cheese grits and be wowed! Cross your fingers!
Please look at my rating: I'm in the top 10% of google reviews with over 20k views and I love to eat.Midcity SmokeHouse gets my rare 4.5 star rating. The food was amazing and seasoned well. The best BBQ I've tasted not made by me. All the sides where great portions the meat portion and and cut was excellent as well. Averaged priced at about $20 per entree or less.Very impressed which is rare.Staff was extremely pleasant and fast. would recommended for locals and visitors to taste true Acadiana Culture. Atmosphere is like eating at Grandma's down south...mixed crowd with great music playing. (Zydeco). The vibe and feeling was light and wonderful.
