I was just passing through Lafayette one day, but this is one of the best dive bars I've been to in years. Drinks are cheap, burgers are OUTSTANDING, and the music is good. If I'm ever in Louisiana again, I'm going to be making a big effort to come back here.
They do not use gloves, while preparing the food. I witnessed them prepare burgers then reach into the chip bag with their bare hand, and fix my chips, while another employee stood in between me and them, trying to hide the bare hand. Then the employee went back to preparing food, and sliding food onto another plate, with the same hand she used for my chips. I will never, never, never, never, never eat their again!! Board of Health phone call to follow.

Ahhh man! Let me tell ya. This has to be one of the best places to go to if you want to drink like sailors, shoot pool, foosball, or pinball, and have good food. To top it all off the wait staff is excellent. I was visiting for 3 weeks and stayed in the hotel right next to this place. I will personally say this places has provided my numerous amounts of drunken nights & closing the bar down just to walk back to my room and pass out happily. This is your typical hole-in-the-wall poolhall but everything about it provide that awesome local feel and history of such a place like Max's. This is a treasure stone to the Lafayette, Louisiana area that all should try. I truly miss this place and plan on returning whenever I get a chance. The food is amazing and the burgers are the best. The source the meat from a local provider & it's truly awesome. Highly highly recommended (some days sold out, it's that good). The music in the place is very respectable and the sound is at a perfect level. Sports will more or less be on TV as guaranteed to be watching the ragin cajun. The bathrooms could use a bit if a tune up, but really didn't matter to me as it served it purpose so I could drink more delicious alcohol. On to the wait staff. What an awesome group of barkeeps and conversations holders; always making you feel welcomed. I truly loved everyone that I meet at that place. Tons of unique people and passer-bys come through this place. It's the type of place that provide that atmosphere I think everyone eventually craves for. So, please, give Max's a try and I promise you won't be disappointed.
I had the shrimp & catfish platter, also bought a few of the bread pudding. It was very good. Will go back.
