We are not too familiar with the area so we felt pretty awkward walking into the restaurant on a Saturday evening after being on the boat. It’s a nicer restaurant that takes reservations but they were able to seat us even though we did not have them. The waitstaff was very nice, the atmosphere is comforting & the food is so good. We got the blackened Mahi Mahi, the veal something (can’t remember) & the hamburger steak & we all loved our food. We will definitely be back!

Treasures are worth searching for. This simply elegant restaurant is tucked away off the street. Lots of lush vegetation along the road hides this find. iron fencing marks the two entrances. The ambiance was perfect with a rich decor including outside waterfront dining. Watching vessels traverse the Intercostal Waterway is a bonus. This was my first visit to Melvin’s. Alas, my short stay in Houma, Louisiana will probably not afford a second chance to have this experience.I had only on dish - the okra shrimp gumbo. Hands down, it was the very best gumbo I have ever savored.I told our server, “if you were selling cookbooks with that receipt - I would buy it.

Monday April 25th 2002. Lunch soup was Island Shrimp - Coconut Curry. Not a big Curry guy but this was delicious. A real hearty broth with a bunch of seafood, kind of a Cajunized Curry. All of the food here is good up and down the menu, someone mentioned overpriced but thats probably because nobody could ever please that person. The value here is good.

As senior citizens, we wanted our wedding to be remembered by all in attendance as a magical day. Due to the destruction of Hurricane Ida, our choices for a location were somewhat limited. On a recommendation, we visited Melvin’s Restaurant where we sat and planned our wedding with Karla and Beatrice. They were cooperative, supportive and provided suggestions that were spot on.Upon our arrival, we were excited by how our marriage ceremony location in the sunken garden was as we dreamed, magical in its design and setup. The reception’s private dining area and its place settings were both elegant and fitting. Most of all, the food was exceptional. Guests enjoyed either steak or fish with great drinks. Everyone noted the quality of the food especially a 96 year old guest who has the reputation of being quite the picky one. The service during our reception was 5-star. Attentive, accommodating and pleasing are the words that come to mind.Thank you Karla, thank you Beatrice, thank you Melvin’s for making our wedding day such a magical (there’s that word again) memory. We were not disappointed and we now look back with great memory of our time spent at Melvin’s.

The flounder was fantastic! First time I’ve ever ordered it - and so glad the staff recommended it. Finished the meal with a delicious cheesecake. Every you hope for from a Louisiana kitchen, but don’t always get.

The staff was very accommodating and eager to make sure we had a pleasurable experience. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant.

What a great find. Great price, great people

I work all over the country and have eaten at a lot of places and this has to be one of the worst. First off the staff was very friendly. That’s about the best thing I can say about the place. Now to the wait time and food. We were there for an hour before we even got our salads. Then it was another 45 minutes before we got our dinners. The food was not nearly good as expected for the price it was. We could of gotten better quality food at McDonalds for a quarter of the price in a fraction of the time. And that’s saying a lot because my family does not eat fast food.

Both Beatrice the hostess and our waitress Selina were top shelf and the lunch specials were delicious.

Very clean and friendly environment! Hot and fresh food with a beautiful scenery.
