Decided to try this little, big spot in Gretna since I have passed here so many times on the river. There is indoor and outdoor seating. It's sit yourself and then the waitress come to you. Our waitress was Tina and Brandy but mainly Tina. We received our menus and looked them over. Ordered water, lemonade and Arnold palmer to drink. The Arnold palmer was perfect. The lemonade by itself taste more like a powder mix. We ordered the fried mushrooms and spinach artichoke dip for appetizers. The mushrooms were served fresh with a side of "dill ranch". My only downside is they don't remove the gills, which give a bitter taste, other than that, they were really good. The spinach artichoke dip was good but one of the cheeses was very bitter. Not very moist. We then ordered our main course. Mom choice the daily special "Mama Lou's" Fried chicken. It came with 3 random pieces ( they chose breast, leg and wing) and Mac-n-cheese( still cold), which there are NO SUBSTITUTIONS on specials so she had to order a side of zucchini and squash. The chicken was VERY, VERY, VERY crispy. So crispy that it would barely cut with a steak fork and therefore could NOT be bit with bare teeth. In other words it was too hard to eat the skin. However, the breast was perfectly crispy with good seasoning. The inside was ok on the wing but the leg was still red inside which made us believe it was old or cooked too fast. The alligator po'boy was ordered with added grilled onions, dressed with lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. I chose the sweet potato fries for an extra $2.50. The alligator did not have any seasoned flavor except for a little kickback at the end of each bite, other than that, it was bland. The bread was awesome though, soft and crispy all in one. The fries were hot, crispy outside and soft inside to perfection. There appeared to only be 3 servers besides the bartender. Trina did an awesome job serving us. She moved to say it was a packed house and she also had a party of 22 behind us. Overall it was a pretty good experience thanks to the appetizers and drinks. The $65.86 bill suggested that on the next go round, maybe stick with something safe like onion rings and seafood Platter. ***** big bathroom and very clean
The food was good, the serving size was large. Good service and a good view of the Mississippi River from the top deck.
Appetizers gets a 5 star for selection but a 4 out of 5 for quality. Their burger selection and overall dinner menu selection is terrific. Burgers are awesome. Service a 5 star. We got there just after 6pm. The Friday night dinner rush started shortly after we arrived. If you have little ones, 3-12 yrs, this is the place to go because they have a faux grass area for them to run around in while waiting for their food. For adults, there is a roof top outdoor eating area with a great view of the Mississippi River, hence the restaurant name. Been there for their Sunday brunch. Terrific food and beats downtown New Orleans traffic.
First going to the River Shack restaurant. They have daily specials and a happy hour. To begin with, there is a lot of seating inside and outside and upstairs. Good views from the upstairs of the river. I like the casual setting of the place. The servers were good and attentive. Today, burgers were half-price. Good flavor. They have lots of beer on draft with local drafts. I like that. There were a lot of people for a Tuesday. Family friendly. Will go again.
Came here on Thursday night, which just so happened to be steak night. Got there at 8:45pm as their hours say they close at 10:00pm. I was promptly told the kitchen was closing in 5 mins. Luckily I knew what I wanted already, the steak. I asked for it rare and it was cooked perfectly. Came with a side and I ordered there buffalo shrimp. Everything tasted great and the staff was very friendly. Would definitely go back. Just make sure you don't get there too late if you're going for food as their kitchen may be closed.
Christy was a pleasure, very nice and helpful. We had the brunch - bring your appetite. The Huey P omlette was stuffed the whole way. My Dad had the 3 eggs breakfast. This was so worth it and will be back with the family. Its worth the wait.
Food was delicious, try the Mediterranean wrap it was so nice! ? The crab cakes were one point and the fried platter was delicious ?
Good food, great beer selection, live music the night we were there. Eve was our waitress and she was very good.
This was my very first time eating here and let me just say that the food here was awesome! Everything was seasoned to perfection. Our waitress Elaina was also amazing, she was so sweet and very very attentive to our needs. Thank you!!!! I would MOST definitely be going here again and will recommend to all my family/friends?
My husband decided to have his birthday dinner here at River Shack. We had a great time. The food was good ( the cheese cake was amazing) and the atmosphere livened up when the band started. The prices are reasonable. We would definitely recommend this place.
