Last year on our way back to Oklahoma from Florida we stumbled across Philay’s and we were determined to make it back this year! Happy to report it wasn’t a fluke the first time. Hands down THE BEST fried catfish, coleslaw and tartar sauce I have ever had. 10/10. And Guy Fieri, if you haven’t been here yet, boy, what are you doing?!
First time ordering from here and completely disappointed. They did not provide tarter sauce. Food was already cold by the time I got home and was cooked in old grease. They said they were supposed to ask if we wanted tarter and that they don’t just give it out because it’s waste if the customer didn’t want it. The manager said I could come back and pick up sauce so I asked if I bring my order back if they would remake it considering the food is already cold. She said no because that would be waste!! Well they just wasted my money and the food will not be eaten due to their mess up. She even admitted that it was their mess up and refused to fix it. I have never seen a restaurant refuse to fix their own screw ups. This will definitely be the first and last time I will ever order from here.
Always outstanding food. my favorite place to eat in Gonzales
My husband and I went out for dinner and chose Philays because in the past it was always a great place. But this time we where very disappointed. I got the blacken chicken Alfredo, the chicken was like rubber. I couldn’t even cut it with a knife. The pasta was over cooked and the sauce was already separating (if you’ve ever made a homemade Alfredo sauce you know what I mean.) My husband had a seafood platter. Which was fine other than the fish. The fish was so thinly sliced that is was mostly breading. Service was super slow, I hardly saw our waitress. But I did see people going in the back and just talking to the staff. I was so very disappointed and dissatisfied with the experience I don’t know if I will ever go back. I used to love this place I don’t know what’s happened to it but it’s sad :(
Liked there were portion size options - small was plenty for us ladies. Ordered a shrimp plate and a catfish plate, got two fish - oops. Was very good, though a bit heavy on the salt, maybe that was another oops batch. Will definitely go again and hope for the five stars.
6 shrimp and 3 pieces of fish is no where close to a large order. What does this establishment think is a substantial amount of food they not only told my wife 20min for the order to be ready and I got there in 45 min and still wasn't ready I had to wait 10 min to get it. I will never step foot into this restraunt ever again. They seriously need to think about what they are sending out obsevely they don't care about retaining customers. The fish has a crawfish boil taste. Don't waist your time going to this restraunt.
Love the food. Always great and priced well. Service is awesome. Im on a Walker and the servers helped me so much. I will always be back!
Great food. Ivy special was blacken catfish with crawfish étouffée. Fried green beans were also good. 8 of us and we all rated a 9 out of 10. We brought our own wine…10$ corking fee. 18% tip auto added. Lots of parking. Great service with a smile. A must stop in In Gonzales…right on hwy 61. Sorry for the bad pic. I usually takes pics but food so great I forgot to. This is a pic of a pic.
Service was great. Food is good but almost the entire menu is very heavy rich food. Lots of heavy sauces and cream. But it taste great if that is what you are wanting.
Really enjoyed dining at Philay's. The service was great. Menu offered a wide range of items to chose from. Seafood gumbo was delicious. The fried catfish would have been really good too except it tasted like crab boil. Cajun seasoning is one thing but crab boil seasoning in fried catfish is just wrong.
