My favorite Italian restaurant in baton rouge.EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS!!
Went to The Little Villiage last night to enjoy a nice date night with the misses. We try to go somewhere really nice every couple months or so. Approaching this restaurant and walking inside, it is very pleasant and calm. It's really dark and mellow and personally, I like that. For an appetizer, we had their bread on the menu with a roasted garlic. There's nothing super special about it, just a really good bread appetizer with Parmesan and olive oil. The roasted garlic was extra, but I didn't mind considering it was a whole garlic that was roasted. The specials last night was an Oscar Filet (9oz) and a lemon butter seared Chilean Sea Bass. I have a soft spot in my heart for Chilean Sea Bass and it did not disappoint the slightest. It was cooked to a perfect. Stabbing your fork into the Bass was enough to cause it to fall apart and it was amazing. The Oscar Filet was just as good, just on the red beef side. Extremely tender and delicious. It was truly an amazing dish. Now here's the downfall of the restaurant: the wait. Our server was very kind and respectful and I felt she did a wonderful job as attending us. No complaints at all on her end. But the wait we had for all of our food was absolutely ridiculous. 2 people who ordered everything they wanted, including a to-go order of Chicken Alfredo, took right over two hours. Now if we were very indecisive and took breaks for drinks and all, I'd understand, but in the first 10 minutes of sitting down we had placed our entire order. We waited and additional 45 minutes just on the to-go order after we had finished our main course. It was terribly frustrating. I ate the Chicken Alfredo the next day and I'll say it's on par at best. The noodles were cooked right, and the chicken was done very well. Cooked properly and seasoned very generously, but the Alfredo sauce was like water, and did not taste much different than a basic canned Alfredo. Anytime a noodle would fall off the fork and hit the Alfredo it would splash into all directions due to the consistency of the Alfredo. Then the flavor of the sauce was such a let down. All-in-all, the place wasn't terrible. It had some really good upsides that I loved, and had some really terrible downsides that really drive. I can't say it was bad enough to not go back because I do believe in giving restaurants more than one shot(most of the time), but if we eat their food again. It'll probably be curbside pickup or along those lines.
GREAT food here. Had the grilled tuna with steamed broccoli and the side Italian salad. Lobster bisque was some of the best I've had. Server was Mike and he was super friendly and helpful. Co-worker had the lasagna and said it was wonderful. If you are in the mood for Italian, this is your restaurant.
Start with the bread.. amazing..and the veal or steak is wonderful.... always...can't vouch for fish or chicken as I haven't tried those but I think they are good too...fried calamari is really good too! Red sauce is good and they now sell jars of it ..it's a great place for a special meal. Love the atmosphere and the attention to details. Linen tablecloth...ambience...has a bar if you need a glass of wine or Martini to start...
Although the atmosphere was very welcoming, everything that was brought out to my table was very bland. From the bread to the pasta! The side salads tasted as if it came straight from outside! Very disappointed in that experience. It was so bad i want to give you a zero, but i can’t! so i give you.. a 1
Before you go...CALL FOR RESERVATIONS! Website does not have a link nor says anything about reservations recommended. They have added the link Now after my complaint... Got there at 5:30 pm and it was packed. Were given a horrible table by the kitchen because we didn't have a reservation. There were 6 tables around us empty until 7:00.Food and table service by Baylor were outstanding both deserving a 5 rating.
Love the service and food! The bread is amazing. The eggplant is on another level :)The waitress was so nice.Definitely coming back every time I can.
Everything was delicious. Thanks to Hugh for getting us a table! The staff was amazing. Definitely recommend the veal picata.
Haven't had this good of Italian food since we were up North. A little on the pricey side but we'll worth it, plus the bread is amazing.
The food and atmosphere is consistently superb!!!
