I have a gluten and dairy allergy so I picked up my food Togo from somewhere else. My family doesn’t went ahead and sat down. I cannot eat anything at chimes and cannot help it. I wasn’t allowed in the restaurant to eat with my family, despite explaining to them my reasons why. I had to sit in the car while my family enjoyed their food. The worker was extremely unkind, and was the worst service I’ve ever had regarding my allergies and intolerances. The worker at chimes was the worst customer service I’ve ever had.
The service is always great and the environment is always nice. The outdoor seating on the rooftop is beautiful and very relaxed, but it’s first come first serve seating so be sure to pick a nice spot that won’t have too much sun if you’re going in the summer. The mozzarella cheese logs are always my favorite.
After finding the parking lot, which is tricky, but doable we enjoyed a delicious meal at Chimes. The fried pickles were pickle chips which we prefer and were a great start. The remoulade salad dressing had just the right spice. My main course of grilled Mahi on sauteed spinach and four jumbo grilled shrimp was superb as were the hush puppies. My wife's grilled chicken was also delicious as was the fried okra. Service was attentive and prompt. All in all an excellent first experience at Chimes. I would definitely consider returning as they have a varied menu with lots to try plus nightly specials.
The service and atmosphere are great. I'd give it another try, but the food was just okay. The salad was completely plain - a little lettuce with one croutons and two bites of tomato drowned in dressing, which is saying a lot for me to call it "drowned." Anything fried was super greasy and tasted heavy. The catfish was well seasoned and a nice flaky texture that fell apart, but maybe a little too much falling apart. The roast beef poboy would do better to have the gravy on the side. The taste was decent, but just from the time it took to go from the kitchen to the table, it was already soggy from being so drowned it gravy. Normally, I'd be all-in on that, but it didn't click just right. I'd give it a 6/10 overall but would try again.
First time there and it won't be the last . I can't wait to go back. The oysters were awesome are some of the .The two bartenders Megan and Carly also known as Queen Bee made me feel so welcome.??? I will have to admit Ashton ,David and Kadie definitely the best
I always take time to visit The Chimes when I am in town. The staff is friendly, communicative, and attentive. The atmosphere is spectacular: lots of dark stained wood, plastered walls with exposed bricks, hooks under the bar for the ladies' purses, and outlets for the phones, etc. The worn, wide plank floors harken to a bygone era that is oozing from this destination. Oh, did I mention the eighty beers on tap or the several wines and mixed drinks on-tap? The menu boasts Poboys, sandwiches, salads, burgers, oysters on the half shell, southern style soups, and a full gambit of Louisiana cuisine. If you have the time, come enjoy The 'Infamous' Chimes before you head over to see the LSU Indian Mounds, believed to possibly be the oldest man made structures in the world! I know...right?! If you are traveling on I10 close to the Mississippi and have a knot in your stomach parlaying, "feed me Seymour!", I say, "take your foot off the gas pedal and head over to The Chimes for some great food, great people and great atmosphere!"...not necessarily in that order.
A must eat restaurant when visiting LSU! Alligator appetizers, Po-boys, crayfish etuffe- I am getting hungry just writing this review!!! Staff is great, prices are fair, beer is cold, and the food is delicious! Geaux Chimes!
The food was amazing! During our 14 hours drive back to Texas, my colleague suggested we stop here. He said we would not regret it, and boy he was right!!! The duck gumbo was amazing! Me and my husband had never tried alligator, and even that was amazing! The service was wonderful!!
’ve been here many times, it’s great!Really nice atmosphere out on the upstairs outdoor patio. They have heaters and TVs. There is a bar and standing area.I’ve also sat inside which is nice. The noise level is nice, it’s not too loud but not quiet either. It’s a nice vibe and the wait staff are on top of their jobs.We always get the cheese sticks, which are really good! They’re the biggest cheese sticks I’ve ever seen. The cheese sticks are so big one per person is enough. The red beans and rice are really good too! We’ve gotten that several times.Their sandwiches are also good.Pretty much everything on the menu is great and you can’t pick a bad thing. It is in a nice location right by LSU, so after you eat you can walk around campus.
Just what we wanted as out of town guests! Great lunch! Husband loved the homemade seafood soup of the day. Excellent sandwiches...I had chicken, but saw other yummy plates walking by also!
