They have THE BEST sushi around in my opinion, however we went to Baton Rouge and their hours said they were open until 10, we got there at 9 and they said they closed early, I get that if the restaurant isn’t busy you maybe cut the staff down, but closing early is frustrating for customers when you drive 30-45 minutes just to eat at a certain restaurant.
I'm particular when it comes to sushi and this place not only has great sushi but a great, friendly atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and food is delicious! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Despite the high ratings, this was a terribly lackluster experience. The establishment is rather small and compact meaning that during peak lunch or dinner rushes you cannot hear what’s going on. We started off with the Atlantic salmon—which runs at about $25. The flavors were very underwhelming and poorly paired—not to mention its doused in soy sauce. I had high hopes since I love pine nuts. Along with that we ordered the crab egg rolls (probably the best part of the entire experience) and apple crab salad (doused in glops of mayonnaise). Overall we spent about $350 in sushi/sashimi—nothing tasted fresh and had a strange gooey consistency. Needless to say if you have IBS you will not have a good time. Servers were overwhelmed yet incredibly friendly despite some of the “needier” tables. I could not in good faith tell you to try this place out for the amount of money you may end up spending for mid sushi.

Finally decided to give it a try and first impression was not the best. I walked in to place a to go order and while I waited for @ least 5 mins to place an order, one of the hostess tried to take an order while a group of employees were just loudly conversing. After waiting for few more mins, I received my food with a missing item. The restaurant was not even busy ?. I should of patiently wait for ichiban to open, because never again. Taste did not make up for it.
The absolute best sushi in BR. Order the crab salad, Vroll+ jalapeño, rockin roll, and a king cake roll. After you eat, get back on here and thank me.

Delicious, clean and enjoyable environment. New to the area so looking for a great sushi place and stumbled upon this one. Will definitely be going back, staff friendly and establishment clean. Worth the wait.
I needed an order of 32 rolls for 4:00 pm, called the day before and explained my order at 2:00, I was told to call back in the afternoon to order. I called back that afternoon at 4:30 and explained my order, I was told to call back the day of the order and order. Called back the day I needed the order and Jamie the manager refused to take my order. We have eaten at Sushi Yama for 15 years, never again.
This place used to be great but it’s has went downhill. Why have a bar if you can’t order a drink at it ? Rude is an understatement ! Will not come back. I have been going to this place since the owner was in Sherwood and service is horrible ever since he moved to mandeville.
