My expectations for this place were fairly low considering it’s no longer an active distillery, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed our tour at Stitzel-Weller. Our tour guide, Rick, was extremely knowledgeable and probably the best guide we had on any tour we did on the Bourbon Trail. We learned a lot of really cool history of the grounds and ended the tour with a tasting. Wish we could have gone up to the Garden & Gun Club, but it was closed for a private event.
My first distillery tour. Don't know much about bourbon but wanted to learn a little bit. This tour was perfect. Our guide Tucker was helpful and informative. Learned some of the history. We walking toured different buildings on site, got to see the legendary still and smell the aromas of a barrel warehouse. The tasting was a unique experience, discovering subtle differences between bourbons. Great gift store, we picked up a bottle of Blade and Bow bourbon to take home.
If your going to start anywhere on a bourbon trail trip, I'd 100% recommend starting with the Progressive walking tour and tasting at Stizel-Weller. The history and connections that the distillery has to a lot of big names and brands is pretty remarkable and definitely makes it a must to stop! The tastings are top notch too!
This was our first Bourbon Trail distillery and we are so happy we came here! Kelsey was a wonderful tour guide and the place is packed with history and knowledge, plus in the tasting you can totally realize the difference between a high end Blade & Bow vs a traditional Bullet bourbon (even though its the same Diageo company). Net: highly recommended!
Very cool place to visit. The location is classy and the gift shop has tons of cute things for the bourbon lover in your life. We were not able to take the tour but the bourbon flight is a must! The people were so nice and friendly.
It's a neat facility, the people are nice. The stories are interesting on the tour. It's also a bummer to find out once you start the tour it's not really a distillery but a storage facility. We were all disappointed and wish that was made more obvious up front. And certainly the name including distillery is a smidge misleading even if they have a micro-distillery on-site they experiment with.
We had the most enjoyable experience at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery. The tour was both enjoyable and informative. Our tour guide walked down memory lane with us recounting remarkable moments in the history of the distillery, explaining the bourbon making process and dropping the occasional joke to keep things amusing. We finished the tour with a tasting of some of the distillery's bourbon and enjoyed a quick bite at the on location bar. I would definitely recommend a visit.
This was a wonderful experience. I love the Stitzel-weller grounds. So much history and culture of Kentucky bourbon in this distillery. Although we didn’t take a tour (all booked), we scheduled a tasting and we’re able to walk around the brand shop and house. We enjoyed going through the house at our pace taking in all the history and decor. Our tasting ended up being just my husband and I and we had the wonderful Allie as our tasting guide. She was a fabulous host! She gave such a great education on the bourbon, history of distillery and other great facts and recs about the city and the area. We appreciated her very much! She definitely went over and beyond and made our experience one of a kind. Thank you SW distillery and Allie!
This is the 2nd time I have visted Stitzel-Weller. This is a great facility with a ton of history. Now that the Garden and Gun Club is open it gives you the opportunity to sample some really special Bourbons. The Blade and Bow 22 year is excellent! When they release bottles to sell I will be looking to get my hands on one.
Literally the best bourbon tour I have ever been on. The tour guide was amazing. She has so much knowledge, kept the whole tour group engaged, and even went into detail on all of our questions. She had great memoirs about the history of pappy Vanwinkle and told stories that the normal person probably wouldn’t know. The only downside to the tour was the bottle I wanted to buy was already purchased that day. Highly recommend grabbing a beverage before you start your tour and grabbing a few gifts in the gift shop to remember the experience
