$72 for 2 drinks and 2 appetizers. Nothing else. That doesn't even include the tip. The atmosphere and service were great, and that earned the 2 stars. The wine I had was served warm (definitely warmer than room temperature) and tasted sour. One of the appetizers was a special -- zucchini blossoms stuffed with ricotta. Sounds awesome, right? It was completely bland, no detectable seasonings, no complementary or contrasting flavors. This is totally fine when super fresh ingredients are allowed to just shine, but these were battered and fried and just tasted bland. The sauce served with them wasn't bad, but it wasn't especially good either. I love "real Italian food," and I loved eating in Italy, especially along the Amalfi coast, where the owner is from. But this was a very, very expensive disappointment. I'm so sorry I can't recommend.
The staff was amazing and graciously accommodated us after we were unhappy with our original table. The food was amazing and the ambiance was really nice. Skippy was one of the best waiters I've had. Will definitely return!Food: 5/5
My wife and I were with a party of 12 on Thurby. The restaurant owner and staff was very polite and accommodating. The food was amazing! The presentation was amazing. A very lovely quaint place. Will visit again and again.
Ate here tonight, and was a great night to eat outside and enjoy the Bardstown Road atmosphere. The food is a nice mixture of modern Italian cuisine and all four of us enjoyed our mains and the desserts were excellent. Why three stars? The gentleman that I assume was the owner talked up most all of the other tables but never came over to us. I saw him both outside and inside chatting to customers. Especially what appeared to be regulars, but never a word to us. Very disappointing.
Married to a chef - I know my food. I grew up outside NYC and this food had me thinking that I had been transported there. Excellent service - attentive but not annoying. Every bite of the food was outstanding!
The best service I’ve ever had in Louisville. The server knew exactly what wine to pair with our food. Food was absolutely amazing. We had the octopus as an appetizer and the squid ink pasta and John Dory special. Both were incredible. We finished with the tiramisu and limoncello, the tiramisu was lighter than most which made it even more enjoyable. We will definitely be back.
Accidentally stumbled across ROC a few years back on our first date and it’s been such a special place for us ever since! The staff and food always make a lasting impression. The last time we were there, I ordered pasta with Vodka sauce and my husband ordered the special (Venison Wellington). He still claims to this day that it is the best meal he’s ever had! We also ordered salads and dessert (sorry no pictures) and left feeling very satisfied. We can’t always afford to go whenever we want, but each experience is one to remember!
Made a reservation for a party of 10, for my birthday dinner, about a month in advance. Most my entire party all arrived at the 6:30 reservation time, only to be rudely told "No, your reservation is 7:30". I would have never made a 7:30 reservation, as even 6:30 is late for me generally. There was no apology and we were treated like we were inconveniencing them. They did seat us in a lovely private room but that was it. We just sat there for 20-30 minutes before we even were offered water. They claimed to be short staffed but that was very visibly not the case. They had multiple servers and water refillers. We didn't get our first cocktail until 7:30. So, instead of the owners sending up a bottle of wine or a basket of bread to apologize for the hour discrepancy that was their hostess fault, they just made us sit and wait. I was excited to try this restaurant, as I have read the owner is from Sorrento and I had just travelled there a couple years ago. However, the food was mediocre at best and overly salted. Lacked in any real flavor. The server was incredibly kind and engaging the whole meal but he made a terrible mistake at the end and instead of being empathetic and apologetic was defensive. He charged one of my guest's credit card for the entire party's meals. He voided that transaction but then somehow did the same thing again. My friend now has two pending charges on his debit card for a total of $1700!!!! When my friend went to address the issue with the owner, which is very serious and could potentially put any person in financial distress because most pending charges don't drop until 3-5 business days, he wasn't apologetic either. In fact, he was downright rude. This all could have been forgiven with a more apologetic attitude but blaming us for their multiple mistakes is not ok. We absolutely will never return to this establishment and I recommend you read not only mine but other's bad reviews (wish I had), before going here.
First visit to ROC tonight with my wife. Incredible food to go along with an incredible experience. Highlight of the evening was watching Chef Rocco prepare the Tuesday night Cacio e Pepe (spelling?) tableside. Chef Rocco is just so personable. Highly recommend ROC and we will be back often.
A great Italian restaurant ran by real Italians from Italy, what could be better? The food is fantastic and it is an experience. Pay no mind to those that gave this place less than five stars. Having been to Italy multiple times, this is the most authentic Italian food and wine but moreover true Italian restaurant experience you will ever find in Louisville, Kentucky.
