This is some real food right here. I ended up in here accidentally, but I decided to try something anyway. I can't eat bread so I got some chili cheese fries and a side of the beef from their sandwiches. It was very, very good. Perfect, honestly. I wouldn't be surprised if their broth has healing properties.
Great inexpensive, high quality lunch very authentic Vienna beef dog, Italian beef sandwich, polish sausage. We always stop here when in Louisville. The customer service is impeccable and they always make us smile and are super nice to our little boy.
Amazing food and amazing people making it. The ONLY reason this is not 5 stars is the fact that they currently close at 5pm most days. I know covid has hit hard for most paces but not being able to get there at all except one day a week because of the hour change is rough.
This unassuming little hot dog stand is amazing!!! I was craving a hot dog and had just coincidently read an article of the best hotdogs in each state. Lonnie’s topped the list in Kentucky, and they did not disappoint! The staff and owners are amazing. Such friendly folks serve up amazing hotdogs the way you would expect from Chicago.I ordered the Clark Street dog and enjoyed every bite!! Highly recommend making it a regular stop!!
The food is absolutely delicious!! You won’t be disappointed.
The one star is because I-really-wanted to try it. After waiting in like for about 20 min, when we got to the counter, they unfortunately just quit taking orders or something. Stood there, as it was finally our turn to order, but seemed to be ignored. By that time, my husband was ready to go, so we had to leave without getting to eat. Was so disappointing. There is a sign that says “no free refills”? Seems strange. Of course, as I said, I did not get to eat the food but from watching it be prepared and seeing the menu, doesn’t seem to be anything special.Just get a Costco dog and coke for like a $1
This was our first time to visit this business. It was not very clean and we had to wipe down our table. We ordered cheeseburgers and one order of cheese fries. The burgers were cooked on the spot and were ready within 10 minutes. They were a little bit overcooked and the buns were smashed. The fries are factory made, not fresh cut. The "cheese" over the fries is actually packaged cheese sauce. They did not look appetizing but tasted okay. Overpriced for what you get.
My new favorite restaurant in Louisville! I grew up in the Chicagoland area and Lonnie's is the real deal. I had the Chicago Dog (I forget what they call it) and the 6" Italian Beef. Both were fantastic! They are changing their hours to stay open a little later during the week.
Great dogs and friendly service!
Over the holidays Fat Man Reviews found its way to Lonnie's Best Taste of Chicago in Louisville, KY. Lonnie's serves Chicago-style food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, beef sandwiches and have been around since 2001.I decided to try a Clark Street Hot Dog or more commonly known as a Chicago dog. This is a pure beef dog served on a steamed poppy seed bun with yellow mustard, piccalilli relish, fresh chopped onions, tomato wedges, cucumbers, sport peppers, and celery salt. The dog has a great snap to the casing and was grilled to perfection. The bun was soft, and the veggies added a great texture and taste to the entire experience. The sport peppers added heat and the relish was bright green and sweet. I only wish I ordered extra relish as it was delicious.I also had Spicy Beef sandwich, extra wet. It came with sliced Italian beef in au jus garnished with a hot, spicy sauce along with hot peppers on a roll. The roll was soft and soaked in au jus, the hot peppers were crunchy and spicy, the sauce is a mustard type of sauce that is spicy with a hint of sweetness. The beef is juicy, tender and sliced thin. This is a wonderful sandwich and I wanted another one when I was finished. My fiancé tried a Congress Cheese Dog. This is a pure beef dog served on a poppy seed bun, smothered with hot melted cheese and celery salt. Again, the snap and grilling was great, the bun was soft, and the cheese was awesome. It reminded me of cheese whiz but better. Another great dog.She also tried a 3" Baby Beef sandwich, wet. It comes with Sliced Italian beef in au jus served on a 3-inch roll, and she added hot peppers (optional). Just like the sandwich before it was great, and the peppers are a must. I like mine extra wet, but normal wet is great too.Lonnie's Best Taste of Chicago is a small joint with very little seating. It is run by a wonderful husband and wife team that just make great food. They are open 6 days a week but will post on Facebook when they are closed. Lonnie's Best Taste of Chicago is Fat Man Approved and highly Recommended.
