Came here for a pre-track meal and was wildly impressed by the quality of the food at the price we got it! Ambience wasn't much but my pork dish was succulent, clean and full of flavor. Rest of my party felt very much the same way about their dishes as well - truly a little gem in the Bluegrass State.
This is a really hidden gem. Its easy in my top 3 favorite Mexican’s restaurants. Me and my fiancé was in the area to see the Kentucky Derby Museum and we was early so went over here for a breakfast and oh boy so glad we decided to give it a chance. For sure i can say that this was the best testing food . From the home made salsa to the main dish it self everything tested great. Give it a try wont be disappointed
Was hesitant about this place at first as it is more of a hole in the wall vibe, but I’m so glad we went! Such a cozy little space, the service is excellent. Everything is so authentic, I have not found better Mexican food in The Midwest than here. Get the birria tacos, you will not regret it! The guacamole is very average, choose the plain salsa for an app! It is served warm which is something I didn’t know I needed in my life until I went here ? Keep meaning to try something new here, but just keep getting the birria tacos because they are so marvelous!
Best tacos in louisville. Really great service and the place has an awesome vibe. Ive eaten all of the tacos. Even the vegetarian ones are good. The only con is that the area is a little sketchy. It looks nice but there’s alot of homeless people wandering. Not gonna penalize the restaurant for that tho.
We live 1.5 hours away from this place.. we might be driving here when we want Mexican from now on... Just plain damn good. They bring you out chips and "salsa" but the salsa is more a Mole it was served warm and was fantastic. I had the pork with Verde sauce. It was a close second best I have ever had anywhere. The tacos were all very good. We tried some unusual ones the cactus, beef tongue and a fish. All were very good but the fish was special. They also have several juices. I don't know what it was I got but wow. So Andrew Zimmern was correct go to this place.
This place was great. Right off the highway and great Mexican. I had the chimichanga and it was one of the best ones I ever had. I would go back but I was just passing through.
The most authentic food you can find. Everything is super fresh off the grill ! The servers are awesome and knowledgeable. prices are reasonable add 4 shrimp for 1$. if you don't go here you're doing yourself a disservice. it's the hidden gem you're going to tell all your friends about !!!
Ordered through doordash ---- I only got the churros and aqua fresca de piña but it was excellent. Best churros I have found in Louisville thus far!
You can always tell when food is made with love and a passion for cooking. The folks here are great! The service is genuine, and the food is fresh with unique flavors!
I have been going to El Molcajete for nearly the entire decade I've lived here and if it was a crowd favorite, almost hole in the wall treasure (of the kind you can't help but gush about while simultaneously hoping it doesn't get overrun) all those years ago, imagine what the years of experience and heart have done by way of improvements.If you want deliciously authentic street tacos, gorditas (sort of like the arepa's distant cousin), or just good ol' chips and salsa then this is the place to be. It's not a local chain, out the best places usually aren't.
