Great pizza, up there with the best, some of these bad reviews have to do with people not knowing what they are getting into, Look at menu before you go! this place is too good to be brought down by dummys. Like the lady complaining that rosemary wings doesn't have Buffalo sauce, what a dummy, or that the pizzas are 12inch only, duuh look at the menu before you go, I swear people.
Despite seeing lots of five stars reviews, the taste of the pizza I ordered was okay, but whatever cheese used on my "Crescent Hill" wasn't melted - I found that unusual for a pizza, and not to my liking. The crust and taste seems a little different from more traditional pizza, and that's fine, as it makes for a different pizza experience. But I just didn't like the experience or taste of unmelted cheese on my pizza. Frankly, I don't know if the unmelted cheese is normal on the "Crescent Hill". And I regret I forgot to take a picture before I ate it. I just know when I was finished I didn't feel any passion or interest in returning. I truly hope your experience and the pizza you select will be delicious and encourage you to visit again because I always want to see businesses do well. That's why I am giving them four and not three stars. But as for the taste of that pizza, I have no interest in eating it again. They had brewed tea unsweetened but no sweet brewed tea. My server said the Middletown store serves sweetened brewed tea so she was a little confused why the St Matthews store didn't offer sweetened brewed tea. I ordered a Coke and it was tasty for a coke with the right mix of coke syrup and carbonated water. Perhaps I'll try the Middletown store with another pizza being certain to ask for pizza with cheese that will melt when placed in the oven. Wishing you a wonderful experience and a tasty pizza.
My family and I were in town for the Kentucky Derby and arrived Thursday night. My husband wanted pizza so I chose this restaurant based on the TA reviews. I'm so glad I did! Although other pizza restaurants were recommended (and closer to our hotel), we chose this one because they had coal-fired pizza—which we love. The pizza was amazing: full of flavor. So much so that we wanted to return again Saturday night after the Derby, but sadly they were getting ready to close. We were bummed. Coals Artisan Pizza certainly left an impression on us: my nephew said it was a highlight of the weekend—and we're taking the Kentucky Derby y'all! My only complaint was our server could have been more friendly—I noticed a bit of a negative vibe at first. But as the night progressed he warmed up a bit. I guess it was our southern charm that did it! Two thumbs.
We came back for another date night. Service was great! We ordered the arancini and Waverly again...because its that good. We tried the stuffed mushrooms, can you say cheesy sausage deliciousness!
Wonderful appetizers.Love the 12 inch pizza.Always great service.
Usually really good, but not transparent about their hours. Facebook, Google, and the sign on the door state they open at noon on Saturdays, but no one was there. Super confusing and inconvenient… at least posting it on the door would be helpful.
Delicious! Our group had drinks, appetizers, and pizzas and everything was fantastic. Service was nice and friendly! Had a great time. Would recommend ordering your pizzas blonde if you don't like the coal fired taste.
This was my first time at Coals Artisan Pizza and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere was nice, the food was great and the server Elizabeth was very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place! The only thing I didn't like is that all the pizzas only come in one size, 12 inches. They're so good though that it makes up for it.
We ordered online for pickup. I went in to get the pizza and there were many other people waiting for their order. I sat at the bar to wait but could not get a beer because the bartender was helping in the kitchen. The place seemed chaotic and chronically behind on orders. Food is good but doesn't make up for a 2 hour wait and poor pickup experience.
They screw over delivery drivers with stupid policies. Make them wait in their restaurant for 20-40 minutes while they take forever instead of letting them order over phone and then pick it up like every other restaurant in the city. Guess they forget delivery drivers can be customers too. Bet they wouldn’t wanna sit around that long not getting paid. Just stupid. I’ll never go there as a customer because of this.
