Good food. Fun place fast service cold ?

service was fast and friendly. we sat out back in the shade. super nice visit

Tom met his wife here and that are living happily ever after! and they have a good fish sandwich.

It's been a local staple for decades, and I took the wife here when we first started dating in 2015, and a couple of times thereafter. I remember going with my Dad to grab lunch here when I was in my teens. But something has happened. It's not as good as it used to be. Wife's fish sandwich was mediocre at best, and she's had it before and really liked it then. Now, 2 pieces with one being almost soaked in oil yet looking almost black around the outside. She pushed that piece aside. My grilled cheese & bean soup was ok, but the soup you could tell hadn't been cooking long and we got there about 3pm. The other telling picture was the place was essentially deserted. It's usually hopping on weekends. Decades of hopping weekends. Not this Saturday, and even with temps near 80. Wow. Word on the streets is it'd been sold recently, and a number of investors own it and Barrel33 now. Wondering if the old is getting passed up for the new. We'll find out today.

I went here with a group of about 20 people to have our annual business meeting.the food that we did receive was really good, but the service was some of the worst i have ever had. some of the orders were mixed up. 1 of our gentleman sent his order back due to having the wrong side order. by the time he got just the sandwich back it was cold ( 1 of our people had to go get his food for him). he sent it back again, still received it back again cold and still no side order.some of our people never received their orders, they recieved a refund for their order.needless to say we left with a really bad outlook on the place.such a shame since the food was good.

Usually Checks has good food and a good atmosphere but tonight the Ruben leaves something to be desired. Disappointed to say the least.

I've heard this is one of the great Locals places, and no joke. This is a must stop at place. You can tell from the moment you walk in that this has been a family favorite for generations. You can tell by the quirks of ordering and serving that you had best adapt to their ways, or you won't be served!Had the fried catfish, and wow. Light, crispy crust, flaky fish on the inside. Killer onion rings too.

This is the second time we've been here. Both times they didn't put our order in. The first time they were very apologetic and gave us a gift card to try again. The second time the food finally came out after asking about it 3 times and it was lukewarm and the whole order was not there. We'll try it one more time because we like the atmosphere and neighborhood feel.

Stull the best...wish I could have had a beer...had to visit Dupont Manual.

Nothing special. Poor service. Long wait times. Went to checks with my husband this afternoon for the first time in a long time, I’ve lived in germantown most of my life & honestly I remember checks better, I had the buffalo chicken sandwich which was mediocre & my husband ate the club sandwich, (ate is really not the word because he did not) I will get back to that later in the post. personally I don’t like the way it’s set up, it’s very not personable, I enjoy the interaction with a server & being checked on. the restaurant was fairly busy so waiting in line in a crowded space with Covid really gave me anxiety, None of the staff had on a mask social distancing was non existent, But that’s besides the point in trying to make. We were in line at least 10 minutes but only 2 orders were ahead of us, I get the whole treat everyone like family but keep it moving there are customers waiting. Back to the food, the house chips are the best thing. my chicken was soggy (overtime is understandable because of the buffalo sauce but fresh is not acceptable) also could have been better if the bun was toasted to hold the sauce. I couldn’t even eat my fries (old and cold) the bacon on my husbands club was so hard he couldn’t eat it.. not to mention the bartender (who placed our order) mixed up my name with another order then was very rude to the food runner, yelled at her from the other side of the restaurant. will probably not return.I now remember why I couldn’t remember what I got at checks last time I went..
