Update: Looks like they now take cards in addition to cash, so I've changed my review to 5 stars. Thanks for listening, Spalding's! :) Best donuts in town -- the original glazed melts in your mouth.

I grew up eating Spauldings Donuts. I used to walk almost 10 blocks to school in the sixth grade rather than ride the bus so I could go across the street from the school and get donuts at the old location on alarm stone. My last job for over 10 years was a doughnut fryer/maker so I know a little bit about donuts. Everyone always says spoutings is the best well I think That’s a yes and no answer. What is the type of donuts that you usually get from Spauldings they are the best around. The yeast donuts have that little bit of crispiness on them when you bight one and each one is like a snowflake. No two are alike. The problem is they have short hours and only take cash. You can get a donut that is just as good somewhere Else they will be just of a different kind of a donut. Only giving them two stars because they are closed for vacation

Well, thought I had been to the best bakery on the planet. Then I went to Spalding’s.Cinnamon Rolls - best I have ever hadGlazed Donuts with Chocolate - best I have ever had.Cinnamon Donuts - always sold out within an hour opening

I can attest to sampling the donut shops of Lexington and this is the best. The boston creme was perfect by donut standards. The chocolate glazed were great. The cake donut was amazing. She told me they make chocolate cake donuts on Sunday. Count me in on the next Sunday. Amazing.

Love love love these donuts. I brought so home for my family and now they constantly ask me to bring more! By far the best pastries in the eastern part of the country. Highly recommend the chocolate one. The ladies up front are so sweet ?? highly recommend!

Maybe I went on an off day, but my donuts (apple fritter, cinnamon twist) were just okay, not that great. The fritter in particular with thick and doughy and the apple pieces were kinda meh. Nice folks but so so donuts.

Great donuts but cash only is just being lazy. If a taco stand out of a trailer can take a card there’s no reason why one of Lexington’s oldest businesses can’t

This place has crazy good donuts, unlike anything else around here. I also give a strong two thumbs up for the apple fritters. Yes, outstanding goodness!

Ok, it's not news that Spalding's has the best doughnuts. The real story here is the customer service they provide. Thank you for providing my wife such over the top service when she purchased there February 7th. It was much appreciated.

Changes are not good.... the doughnuts, I'm sad to say are different now. I'm not sure why they changed but they are no longer any different than a gas station doughnut.... I have been eating Spalding's since i was a child and the past year it's been way different. They taste undercooked and are too uniform. They are not the one side dough bubble , one side crunchy, and each of the doughnuts looked different and tasted amazing...Shape when frying matters, undercooked dough is gross. If I didn't just walk in and buy them myself I would swear what I just bought is not Spalding's. I first thought it was just a bad day but, nope... it's just bad now.I hope they change them back. I am not interested in driving into Lexington at 6 am for what I just got.I noticed in my pasts visits over the past year the line which use to be out the door and around the building is not there any more. A line that lasted decades is gone..... I think that says something.
