On a sunny afternoon the old man and I made took an adventure over to Sam's Hot Dog Stand in downtown Lexington, KY. Sam's is a chain throughout Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Georgia and North Carolina. It has been a long time staple in Lexington, KY. Every Sam's Hot Dog Stand menu is built around the classic staples of the original restaurant.I tried two dogs, starting with the Chili Dog, mild, and added mustard, onions and cheese. It was served on a fresh, steamed bun. The dog was boiled, which is my favorite way to serve a dog, it had a decent snap and is all beef. The shredded cheese was just enough and the mustard was a good amount as well. The chili is old school, meat and sauce. It is slightly sweet and may have ketchup added to it. Everything was exactly how it should have been on a hot dog from a hot dog stand. It reminded me of hot dogs at a baseball park. My only real knock is that it would level the chili dog up with melted cheese or cheese sauce.I also tried the Slaw Dog. Again, the bun was steamed perfectly, and the boiled hot dog was pretty good. The slaw was crunchy, fresh and made daily in house. It had a slight sweetness. They give you a good amount to cover the dog. I do wish the slaw was a bit wetter to soak into the bun and make for a much nicer mouth feel and bite.Sam's offers all the classic options for a dog, mild or spicy chili as well as premium pork sandwiches. The service is very friendly. They have limited seating. The Fat Man says that Sam's Hot Dog Stand is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin.
I appreciated that they had many different kinds of hot dogs. The service was quick. However, there was a strange smell while inside and our group found it too bad to eat inside. I tried the beef hot dog. It tasted good, but isn’t necessarily a meal I would go back for.

Great food! Cheap prices! Friendly service! Great spot for a quick lunch. Even when there’s a line out the door, still much faster than most drive throughs. Will definitely be going back!
Do you want a hotdog? Eat at Sam's. Simple as that.
They're all beef hot dogs taste like pork filler hot dogs. Not great, but OK. I used to eat here once a week 20 years ago. It was much better.
It was the first time my partner and I had ate here. We enjoyed our meal and will definitely be coming back.
