J Renders catered our rehearsal dinner and did a wondering job!! The entire staff was easy to work with from our tasting, planning our meal and day of catering service- everything was excellent!! All our guests loved the food! Would definitely recommend for all catering needs!!
Once again, wonderful meal! Highly recommend the brisket! Nachos and Quesadilla awesome! More food than you can eat! All delicious! Eric was a wonderful, attentive server!
If you are looking for something different, I highly recommend J Renders. The food was excellent, (I ordered the Rueben with molasasses baked beans and spinach dip for the appetizer) and wait staff was very professional. My wife and I will definitely be back
The service in the restaurant was excellent, friendly and fast. We visited during a very generous happy hour featuring beer (craft and otherwise), wine and liquor. One not so great thing about the service: the food came out too fast. Appetizers came out 4 minutes after our food! So this place is great if you are in a hurry, but not if you like a more relaxed dinner. The food was ok, but nothing special. The macaroni and cheese was excellent, the spinach dip not so good. The meat on my French dip was a bit skimpy and lacked much flavor. My husband like the ribs, but found them uninspired. Convenient location near a mall, plenty of parking, outside seating as well as inside is always nice, though outside seating faces the parking lot. Maybe some more separation (plants, small divider?) would make seating outside very pleasant, though admittedly we sat inside.
We ordered southern fried chicken, which was over cooked and dry and very salty! The green beans….extremely salty….we sent it back and decided to try the meat loaf….bad decision! The food tasted like it had been sitting out for awhile…it could not have been freshly cooked. We sent that back, too! Manager came over to ask what he could do and we just said will pay for the coleslaw and the spinach artichoke dip and chips and we didn’t want anything else and he just walk away. The spinach artichoke dip was very good. Everything else was really bad!!!!
We keep trying this place every year or two because we forget the previous experience. Was it really that bad? Was it an off day? So many people love it, maybe it’s better. I’m leaving this review in part so I will remember that it’s really just kind of okay. Our last attempt was takeout near the start of the pandemic, and it was truly awful.Long story short: if you go because you want to try it or are along for the ride, get the veggie platter. The sides I tried (except for the fries) are all pretty good to great. Collards, crispy Brussels sprouts, potato salad, cornbread, all great. The meat should be the draw, though, and it isn’t. Everything I had was dry, and there’s no excusing dry, tough smoked meat. Go to Porterhouse BBQ or Blue Door and you’ll see what I mean. The sauce should compliment the meat, not require it so you can choke the meat down. The ribs were an okay flavor but hurt my jaw to eat. The pulled pork was okay, and my smoked chicken was just sad. I ate three bites and took the rest home to turn into a stew or something. It was extremely overdone, to the point of being almost mealy.Don’t be fooled into getting the happy hour appetizer, either. We tried the balls (I forget the actual name), pork and Mac and cheese smashed into a ball and fried. That panko coating was dang tasty, but the admonishment to be careful because they’re so hot was very misleading. They were freshly fried but the inside was *cold* and didn’t have much flavor. The Mac didn’t seem to have any actual cheese. I had to use sauce to make it palatable. As for the service, our waiter was nice enough. It took a while to actually order because the servers were clumped around the service area chatting. There were just enough tables Saturday at 5:30 that they might each have had one customer. We got our food fast, at least. It’s just okay. We likely won’t be back unless we fall into the “local gem” narrative again.
Usually always have a good experience here but last visit wasn’t exactly pleasant. The food was great but the service was terrible. The server Derek I believe was his name, an older gentleman with a big tattoo on his hand, took forever to even get to us and I understand if it was busy but there were maybe 7 tables in the restaurant and I saw at least 4 servers working. The guy we had maybe had 3 of them and looked like he was in a frenzy. We ordered our drinks which was only a coke and a sweet tea we saw him go outside then 5 minutes later came back in and got our drinks. We order our food and a couple minutes later we see him go back outside again. At first we thought maybe some people were brave enough to sit outside but we took a peak and there was no one out there because it was super cold. Might want to get the guy some help because clearly he’s on something. From time we sat down till the time we left we counted he went outside 5 times. Another server brought out our food and got us refills thank god and the food was fantastic and the Brussell sprouts were the best I’ve ever had. My wife and I loved this place and will consider coming back but we never want to have him be our server again. He clearly needs more training or a new profession.
The restaurant was pretty much empty when I got there. Maybe I should have took that as a hint to eat somewhere else. The food was over priced and had no flavor. Fries were not fresh. Maybe the food was from the previous day or something. Gave the food a chance because of the high Google reviews. Fooled me once but never again
This place is the worst barbecue place in town. It’s way over price and the food is very mediocre. I could’ve went to a fast food place and got better barbecue than this. I got the “famous” pulled pork sandwich that they claimed was the sandwich that started the restaurant. There was hardly any barbecue sauce on it it tasted like a glorified grilled cheese. They claimed mac & cheese was on the sandwich but you could barely taste it. I didn’t even finish. The fries were not fresh. It’s obvious that they are frozen fries that they use. The buffalo chicken dip was runny and hardly hot. The only thing good about this place was a live music. We also came in and there were about four tables available and we had to wait 20 minutes for a table. They don’t have any type of seating for you to wait for an available table. So we had to stuff ourselves at the bar waiting on a table. That’s absolutely ridiculous. I’ve never went to a place that didn’t have adequate seating when waiting on a table to open up. After we finally received a seat over in the corner we waited for at least 5 to 10 minutes for our server to come over. We were so close to getting up and leaving. We came there on a Saturday night and there was no type of manager walking around making sure that everyone was taken care of. Everyone was just doing their own thing there. It was an absolute joke and I will not be telling anyone to eat here.
Time to update my review especially after visiting Friday night with my wife. I will add this is only my 3rd visit in 5 years but I haven't been disappointed on any of the occasions and I will add somehow we have lucked out with no planning to have live entertainment on 2 of the occasions. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken Dip and Chips as an appetizer of which was fantastic especially with the Bleu Cheese crumbles on top. My wife ordered and Half Rack of ribss and I got the 2 meat sampler with Brisket and Ribs along with Crispy Brussel Sprouts and Mashed potatoes. All I can say is the meal was fantastic with excellent portions leaving both of us certainly nice and satisfied. The Brussel Sprouts we're simply fantastic. I have seen a few less than perfect reviews and all I can say is I hope they give this place another shot and if you haven't tried it here it's worth the opportunity to make your own decision BUT I believe it will be worth the risk. The first picture you see if from Burger Week 5 years ago when we tried this place for the first time and the other two are from this past Friday night.
