My husband and I were excited to finally see an Italian food option in Bowling Green, but were hesitant because we weren’t sure a coffee shop would deliver a fine dining experience. We decided to give it a try and we were extremely disappointed by what we got for the price we paid.First of all, it’s a very small place with only two tables inside, and with it being 95 degrees outside, we had no desire to sit outside. We had to sit at the coffee bar which wasn’t the end of the world, but far from the fine dining experience that could be expected based on the prices they charge. When we received our food we couldn’t believe it because the portion sizes (see photos below) were not what we’ve come to expect for Italian restaurants we’ve gone to in multiple larger cities that charge similar prices. The food itself tasted great but this wasn’t a $60 meal (we only got one alcoholic drink, the Red Sangria, which I did enjoy) and we knew we would be hungry a few hours later. At the very least they could have included a side salad (which cost extra) and served some bread with the meal…Between the lack of ambiance and smallportion sizes for the price charged, we definitely won’t be returning.
Neat little local place. Caramel Frappe was great. The Carmelita came out warm and gooey (just the way I like it). Looking forward to trying the lunch menu.
The staff was very nice but I have an issue that needs to be addressed. As I’m writing this I literally vomited. And you know why? The food. THE FOOD. Somebody needs to call OSHA because while I was dining there I not only felt but tasted 47 crimed against humanity. Boiled chicken that has never saw any seasonings in its life. Bland and disgusting food that made my stomach ache within minutes of consuming it. I mean… this is the food I’d imagine they’d serve you on either death row or in hell. The fact the cooks feel accomplished after throwing in a grain of salt for a portion that would fill up a toddler is insane. And the prices for what you get are the most horrifying part. If you see this just keep driving or swerve into a ditch before you make it there. An insurance deductible will be much cheaper than a hospital bill for getting your stomach pumped. As of today small business like this one are definitely on the “do not go” list. P.S. when the server asked if everything is fine I know good and well you saw us struggling to eat those deer ankles you called meatballs.
Was excited to try this place and was happy we were immediately greeted by the server Michael and the bar tender brought water and menus. It was not super busy, However after 10 -15 minutes of watching Micheal go to every other table to take care of them and no longer acknowledging us, we left. Not sure if we will try FunKY Bean again if this is the norm.
I tried this place as the coffee shop a few times and honestly didn’t care for the drinks I tried. I went back tonight to try the pasta and it is so much better! I really enjoyed sitting outside while trying the house Pino Grigio, Carbonara and meatballs which were all very good!
The Funky Bean is fantastic. I do not say that often about any restaurant. Breakfast is amazing, as is lunch. The coffee is great and dinner is off the charts! Homemade pasta is the best I’ve ever had.The staff and ownership are super friendly. If you’ve read a negative review, consider the sources. Employees of their competition, right next door, have been been defaming the Bean!So go get Funky at the Bean!
Excellent food and service. Beautiful cafe that unexpectedly serves upscale, reasonably priced, made from scratch Italian food. Their tiramisu was THE BEST I’ve ever had. Absolutely delicious. We will be back! ??
Wonderful vodka rigatoni, beautiful salad with olive oil and bread. Excellent wine. Tiramisu that won in a Vegas bake-off. Super classy, friendly vibe. We just loved it… can’t wait to come back!
Excellent service here. Cute place. They were out of two of the items I asked for. That tells me they don't actually make their food and prolly order it in from some place. Hopefully a local business.
I haven't been here in a while so it came as a surprise that so much has changed inside. The menu has been updated and expended to include cocktails and brunch. More filling food options were added, makes for an entire meal. A whole new indoor seating area has been added to make it comfortable and warm to sit down with company for brunch. And a merchandise has been added also. Overall, the expansion brings in bigger crowd, but you can still just do a drive-thru if you wish.
