I don’t usually write reviews as I usually let minor inconveniences slide. We travel about 40-50% of the year, and this was by far the worst hotel I have stayed at in a very long time. It was so bad that I canceled a reservation at another TownePlace Suites for the next week in a different city- never again. Staying at a newly built Hilton brand instead. There was what looked like black mold growing on the bathroom wall, near the tub (photo attached). On the other end of the tub you could see where they have already patched a similar issue, so management should have been aware of it. There is a serious water problem going on behind the walls. The floor outside of the bathroom flexed when we walked and the whole room shook with each step. The flooring would flex with each step and vibrate down the hall. The bathtub would creak and flex when we stood in it to shower. (We are athletic, not overweight people). If it hadn’t been 100+ degrees we would have left. By the second morning the nose/throat irritation was awful. There was fuzzy mold growing on the surface of the bathroom fan (photo attached), which apparently didn’t work (but maybe there was a central exhaust fan system, so it might be that none of the bathroom fans are effective in the hotel). After showering the bathroom mirror was completely covered in condensation, so the vent was definitely not venting. In a properly vented bathroom that shouldn’t happen. The door was also warped at the bottom so that it made a grinding noise upon closing and would not fully close and latch, even though it looked shut. That’s a security issue to be aware of. The walls are very thin. There were kids yelling in the courtyard at 11pm one night, waking us up. At 4 am one morning there were kids yelling in the hallway and knocking on random doors (probably the ones with the dog signs on the door, hoping to get a bark. Fun. Luckily my dog takes her cues from me and didn’t take the bait), and left a bunch of trash in the hallway. For the 3 days we were there one room had left a bag of trash (or several l bags by the end of our stay) in the hallway. It just sat there all day long, everyday. It was there when we checked in, and it was a bigger pile when we checked out.
Second stay in a month. First stay, absolutely no food or coffee in the morning. Our tiny room had a few repair issues. Second stay, reserved a larger room. Arrived, advised overbooked, given a small queen in a quiet part of the hotel. Hotel not busy, went online and found the room I wanted available that night. Lots of noise from the highway and other guests throughout the night, I am guessing they don’t have cleaning staff or rooms are vacant because of maintenance issues. Breakfast had minimum food available, we stay at Marriott properties but this one is the worst I’ve experienced. Great location, wish they had better management. The two employees we met were great.
This was a business stay. The lobby was pristine. Overnight clerk although under staffed remained professional and pleasant. Our first room was not cleaned. After bringing this to the attention of the clerk, he apologized and promptly changed rooms and reduced our rate. The second room was clean, bed was extremely comfortable. Apology for no additional pics.
I cant give it a 3. 2 and 1/2 is more appropriate Pros: price, proximity to the university, friendly staff, they serve popcorn in the evening ( didnt try it but very thoughtful) Cons: located very close to highway so you hear cars through the night. Truck drivers park their loud trucks in the parking lots at night, the beds are horrible, very soft and very loud ( I dont remember ever sleeping so poorly) The hotel is clean and dirty at the same time. The actual tub was clean. The shower curtain and walls of the shower were dirty. The actual bathroom door was scary looking. This is significant because the bathroom door slides open and its difficult to open. You can only imagine other people with suboptimal hygiene opening the door before you and feeling afraid of the brown stains on the door. I asked for housekeeping to add a little attention to the door but I dont think it helped. I worked on cleaning it myself with lysol wipes. The refrigerator is short so you can see the dust on top. Otherwise surfaces were clean, sheets smelled fresh. I believe the hotel is recently renovated as those renovations are nice and help the place look more modern. This hotel has potential if they could update the bathroom doors and replace the mattresses and a little more attention to detail I could handle the other cons. Also there were complaints about breakfast. It was a pretty average hotel breakfast and always well stocked. No complaints about it. The hotel has potential but I would not stay there again in its current state.
I visit family in East Wichita once or twice a year and have stayed in most of the hotels in this area. I think that I'll make this one my regular stop, in part because I want to build up Marriott points. Staff were fine. My queen suite was clean and had a good layout. It looked brand new. My only criticism is small and funny. There were shelves in the closet that were so high that there wasn't really room to hang a shirt.
I had a rough time checking in. The desk agent couldn't explain to me why he was trying to hold $70 more on my credit card than the full price of the room for 3 nights. The hotel's front door was always ajar and looked broken for the entire stay. The mattress was semi-comfortable, but the bedding was way too small. The fitted sheet kept popping off just laying down, and the blankets would not cover 2 people and still reach the edge of the bed. We had ants in our room on the third floor on our last day. We notified them as we were checking out, so I assume they addressed it. The bathroom has a pocket door that we could not get to lock. The hallways were sweltering hot and very narrow. It was just a very unimpressive stay. We usually stay at the Stay bridge on Greenwich, and have substantially better accommodations for basically the same price.
First room had hairs in bed & debris on floor in room. We changed rooms. Walking to 2nd room, debris on hall & elevator floor. Looked like 2-3 days of not vacuuming. On the surface, the 2nd room looked better. But after the front desk woman left we noticed the 2nd room was also unclean. Had hair in tub & on bathroom counter. See pics. There more hair but not all were as photogenic. Finally, we started with a quarter roll of toilet paper with no extra roll. Really?!?! We ran out, so when my son asked for more, they gave him one roll ?? Not one for the dispenser & one extra, just one. I’ve been all over the county in all types of hotels & brands. This was just poor & showed a lack of process, discipline, & care. No one must be checking on the housekeeping- if they are, they’re not doing their job. Franchise location owned by: TPS-TIC, LLC & managed by TGC Hospitality Management, LLC. Bottom line - Very dissatisfied. Would not ever stay here again.
Waited in line for 15 minutes to be told my part of our order was not rang up. Mind you I waited 5 minutes in line to order and then waited 15 minutes to receive said order. This is unacceptable.
Very kind and helpful people. Very knowledgeable of the area with directions. Room spacious and clean and tidy. House keeping was very accommodating with delayed room cleaning and extra towels. Front desk helpful with pillows and blankets for pull out sofa.
Marriott branded hotels are my go to on the road. In comparison to other hotels that I have stayed at recently I can only give this one a rating of "average". The room was clean, but the sliding bathroom door was partially off its rollers. The bathroom itself was small, but the kitchenette was generous. Compared to the queen sized beds I've had in other TownePlaces these full sized beds were not as comfortable although we had a reasonable night's sleep. The breakfast was the smallest I've send in several years. The rate was good and the people friendly.
