My family stopped for lunch in North Topeka for lunch on May 13, 2022 on the way to a nephew's graduation in Salina, Kansas. We discovered The Wheel Barrel by chance. We didn't know we were in a for a great treat! We were starving. The restaurant was full inside, but luckily they had additional seating outside in the back of the restaurant, with a large awning for shade against the hot mid-May sun.The menu was interesting and looked exotic, with every item containing cheese in it. You could order a full or a half sandwich. And you could pair a sandwich item with a soup or salad. I ordered a half sandwich containing blue cheese and roast beef and a small house salad. All the sandwiches came toasted. I like that a lot. I like sandwiches on toasted bread. The blue cheese had melted onto the roast beef, and it was delicious! The salad was ordinary, but it was good to have a "vegetable" with my meat and bread lunch. I was thoroughly pleased. The quantity was just right, and the whole meal delicious.I thoroughly recommend The Wheel Barrel in North Topeka, Kansas.
The grilled cheese sandwiches are delectable. Had 1/2 sandwich and salad. There are many different offerings of unique grilled cheese/meats/vegetables combinations. Side salad came with housemate delicious salad dressing and some feta cheese in it. I did get the large baked pretzel with my meal. It came with a wonderful beer mustard but the pretzel was pretty light and airy, not like a normal NY pretzel but still good, just unexpected. Staff was sweet and welcoming. Being a solo traveler I always appreciate good customer service. Restaurant is in a cute little area if Topeka I wish I had known about as I would have made time to walk around. Parking was easy, neighborhood was safe and pleasant. Only thing as I didn't drink alcohol and bill was over $25. I know due to covid and inflation prices are high but that seemed a bit high.
The food was outstanding! I really enjoyed the BLT that I ordered. Service was pretty good, we sat at the bar. The bartender wasn't super friendly or talkative but she kept my glass full and didn't mess around with taking care of us. Atmosphere is pretty cool and it's right near downtown Topeka, so it is located in a nice spot if you're hanging out there. I would go back for the food and recommend it for that reason alone.
I had the monte cristo and it was fantastic, grilled to perfection, served with chips and a pickle! The craft beer selection on tap was fantastic and the bartender was knowledgeable and prompt. Highly recommend.
GREAT TASTING VEGAN FOODS! This is my first time at The Wheel Barrel and it DID NOT disappoint! We had the Ratatouille, Mediterranean pasta salad, and tree hugger sandwiches. They were very flavorful, filling, and very much worth the visit. Our food was freshly prepared and we received it that way. The bartender was attentive and pleasant taking my order and updating me on when it would be ready to go. We will be back!

We dined in today for lunch, our first time and it will not be our last! I tried the piña colada mule- delicious! Shared pub chips w/craft beer queso- PERFECT! My husband had the Sammy L Pepperjackson and I had the Baja Turkey- SO good!! Oh and the broccoli cheddar soup was great as well!! Definitely give this little place a try, the staff was also super friendly :)
