Sushi was really delicious, but was surprised by how small the rolls were (6 pieces for California and veggie rolls). Felt like the price was the same as elsewhere but I wasn't getting as much. Really enjoyed each of our rolls though!
I was really looking forward to trying this place, thinking it would be better than most and a new favorite. Unfortunately, our appetizer was overcooked and the sushi was good but pretty typical of every other sushi place. The restaurant itself was very warm and uncomfortable.
Never ever again! Today was the first and last time I will ever eat food from this establishment. I ordered the "fantastic roll" and a side of rice in case I didn't like the roll. I was so excited because I absolutely love sushi and haven't had it in awhile. I decided to try this spot since its close to my job. Well the first bite I took I noticed it had a lake watery taste (I thought to myself that since it's fish it's probably nothing) well I was completely wrong. After eating a second piece I was sick to my stomach, the taste was so foul words can't describe how disgusting it was. I flipped two of the other pieces of salmon over and sure enough it was completely discolored and had a thick layer of black stuff (I'm assuming might be mold). I'm extremely disappointed. All I can hope is that since this made me vomit I won't get food poisoning.
Been a few times and I feel they have a pretty decent sushi menu, their soup is different (not in a bad way) from other places I've had, to me it has the aroma of doughnut shoppe, I've had the bento box and would suggest that for the lunch special. Haven't tried a lot of the sushi places in KC but I like they are close by my house and the sushi is always good especially the pink lady.
Amazing sushi and great service! Affordable. We will definitely make this a common spot for us!
Seemed like a lovely place. We were from out of state and had never been. We told the host this and they handed us a to-go menu then ignored us. We sat waiting for quite awhile, even tried to ask the waitress for assistance. Others who came in after us were served and spoken with, after a 15 minute wait, we decided to leave.
We have regularly been getting sushi at Sawa for years with a pause for the pandemic. Sushi is my oldest son's favorite food and we have tried and continue to try every restaurant in town that gives it a go. Likewise, we have had sushi in 20 other cities for the same reason. Sawa is consistently great. This is our "go-to" in KC and we are never disappointed.
I thought I could turn to Sawa for some comfort food. This was the lunch any 2 rolls ( Eel Avocado & Salmon Roll and Beef Teriyaki Bento. To my surprise the food not only so limited for what you would get for lunch but when you order a meal you expect some amount of edible food. There was hardly any Eel in the roll and they also forgot the miso soup that came with the set. The teriyaki beef came with a thin slice of tasteless beef and sushi rice instead of white rice. They had no one in their restaurant besides 2 people on a table. This is such a let down. Overpriced, little food and less then mediocre food quality. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!
Ordered sashimi for 2 and some dumplings. Everything was great. No complaints.
Place was amazing. Best sushi we had in KC!
