This place is officially my Husband and I go to place. It has a beautiful atmosphere and attentive wait staff. Always seated imedeately and Victor the owner makes every visit special. We are here for our second visit in less than a week because the food was so incredible we couldn't wait to try something new. If you are wanting real Mexican food with out of this world flavors and fresh ingredients you need to come here!
Had a really delightful lunch today. The restaurant is very clean and the atmosphere is pleasant. Our waiter was very busy but very attentive despite him being the only one. The food was wonderful. This is not your typical Mexican restaurant. If you're in the area and looking for a nice dining experience, I would highly recommend Ixtapa.
Delightful owner who educates the diner on fine points of Mexican cuisine served in Ixtapa. Elevated, fresh, original and authentic plates of classic Mexican cuisine. Every bite was flavorful! The wait staff was very attentive as well.
We have now visited Ixtapa twice and it was the same experience both times. The food is okay. The man who I assume is the owner does not allow you to order for yourself. He approaches your table, goes on very arrogantly about how he has the only real Mexican food in Kansas City, and tells you what you will be served without disclosing the price. He takes the menus and does not allow you to look at them. What is even the point of giving your patrons a menu when seated if they can’t view them? I am always open to LISTENING to suggestions, but ultimately I want to look at the menu and order what sounds best to me. We watched as he did this to all the tables around us. When our food came out, it was the exact same meal we received on our first visit. Their drink menu is boring. I asked for a top shelf margarita and our waiter pointed us to the house margarita. It was too sweet and syrupy.
Delicious food, courteous and friendly staff and fast service. Check out the patio for a nice park like feel. I appreciated that the staff quickly confidently responded when I asked for menu recommendations.
This place was amazing and I look forward to going back. That being said, before you go here YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING INTO.This is NOT your typical kansas city tex-mex tacos and margaritas. This is more of a dressed up authentic mexican food experience at a higher price than chimichangas. The flavors were amazing and the variety was satisfying. The reviews mentioning the owner forcing choices on you are true, but in my opinion his recommendations are trustworthy. This guy's ego probably makes it awful to work there, but as a customer it ended up guiding us through a more satisfying food experience.All this being said, if you are looking for typical tacos on the cheap you should skip Ixtapa. If you are looking for more than that and are willing for a conversational ordering process, then this place should not be skipped!
AMAZING!! We were seated immediately & received excellent service! There was live music, which was a perfect touch. Victor made our meal/experience unforgettable and everything was so delicious!! My daughter & I even let him select our meals, which isn’t something I do regularly but all thumbs up. The mango cheesecake was my favorite though!! I wasn’t sure bc I recently had mango cheesecake at a Thai restaurant but it was very good. But what we had at Ixtapa was so unique and perfect. Can’t wait to go back!!
Went here randomly on a Tuesday night for a drink and dessert. Chris was a fantastic server, and I love the lightness of the mango dessert. I also tried authentic enmoladas for the first time! I love the atmosphere of this place. Go here for something different and special.
The owner fed us CRICKETS! My date and I ate at Ixtapa for the first time tonight. We had a nice meal, but it was ruined when the owner gave us a “special” treat after our meal. I asked him what it was and he said “eat first and then we will talk later”. He fed us CRICKETS!! This is totally disgusting, and wrong to do to someone without telling them. Needless to say I will not be returning.
Went there randomly one evening and had the most wonderful experience! The server asked if we trusted him and asked if he could order our food for us! He asked a few questions on meat choice, spice level and drink options, and out came the most delicious meals and beverages! It was amazing!! Highly recommend if you want unique Mexican cuisine!
