Suggested by a friend, super close to the theaters, and HUGE portions!Breakfast and Lunch/Dinner all day - prices are super reasonable...and I love the adorable decor!Fun place to eat yummy food for all ages! Desserts are huge, too!
I had a surprise bday party/dinner for my fiancé at Black Bear Diner in early June. The staff was amazing from letting me drop off decorations for their party room in advance. Our waitress was Rebecca Slavens and she did a wonderful job. We had about 20-25 people in our room. She was very helpful in knowing the answers to our questions about the menu and what she would suggest for herself. And her suggestions were right on key!! I was very pleased with everything this diner had done for us. Thank you Black Bear!! We will be back soon!!
Food was well prepared, service was great, and prices were very reasonable! Great place to take the family! Will be back!
Fun family restaurant. Perfect spot for a meet up spot for out of town guests or for your choice of breakfast/lunch/dinner. Creative menu in the newspaper on the table. Good was superb. I had the Waffle eggs and bacon while my Mother had the pancakes, eggs and bacon. Food was hot and fresh. Service was very friendly but slow which was a surprise as there weren't many customers in the restaurant at the time. If you have time to relax and visit with your family or date then sure stop on by for a great meal.
The Mexican lady host was extremely rude and shouldn’t be the first interaction you have when you come in. She makes you feel very unwanted and couldn’t care less about your time. She told us 25 minute wait even though there were at least a dozen tables not being used. We waited 30 minutes and then were told that only 2 cooks showed up for work. It was another 20 minutes to get our food. Our waitress was awesome! She kept apologizing and she even sent my breakfast back herself because the eggs were overdone. I actually heard her tell the cook this. Other than our waitress, the whole experience was one I won’t be repeating.
Revision: Management did reach out and I feel respectfully and earnestly addressed this situation. While I doubt I will go back to Olathe I’ll definitely come back to Black Bear Diner!Prior: We frequent the black bear diner in Independence. But since the Olathe location was closest to KU cancer center we went here for my cancer free celebration breakfast. I ordered my usual loaded hash browns and two over medium eggs. Well when it came out the potatoes were barely cooked and definitely not loaded. So I tried to politely let the waitress know. So she took it back to the kitchen and I SH!T you not, I could hear her mocking me about this to the kitchen staff. So when came back out it still barely had cheese on it but had a little more ham and the eggs were cold so all together a complete fail. I did let her know I could hear her speak about me to the kitchen she immediately got deferred and said well I was just telling them what to fix (weird I didn’t realize that required mocking me, I actually heard her making fun of me the way I was speaking). Long story short she gave us $6 off a $10 meal I couldn't even eat really. But the coffee was good. To anyone who is like oh she couldn’t have known I was celebrating being cancer free she had to have missed my medical bracelets or phone conversation my mom called while ordered and I needed to tell her, regardless that’s just not cool period as a server to mock a customer especially within earshot. Even though she treated me very badly (within ear shot behind my back) still made my breakfast not edible we still tipped 20%.
Our booths seat was extremely broken so my husband and I had to crowd together on our side. Our server was very pleasant and our order was correct. I had the blackberry stuffed french toast which was really amazing. My husband had the prime rib dip which came out with the bread rather soggy and was cool rather than hot. We had to wait quite some time to be seated due to what appeared to be a staffing issue.
Roasted Red Pepper Chicken Sausage Scramble at Black Bear Diner. This is my first time adventuring in to the lite menu, I generally stick to delicious items like chicken fried steak and eggs benedict..This was really good too!!Diced roasted red pepper chicken sausage scrambled with egg whites, jack cheese, spinach and sautéed mushroom. Topped with sliced avocado and diced tomato and served with fresh fruit and a slice of dry, wheat toast
We ate lunch and paid $8 for a small piece of coconut cream pie to take home. Got home and found out it was a little pudding with whip cream on top. No crust. No flavor. . Who sells pie without pie crust. Total rip off.
Appeared to be short handed in the kitchen that morning. The food was good, but some was not as hot as the rest, so it must have be done sooner than the other items. We will try again later to see if it improves.
