I tried out J Wilson's for the first time this last week during a Tuesday evening. What a great place with great value. First, our server, Michael, was extremely attentive (his picture posted to this review). He was extremely knowledgeable not only about the menu, but the wine. What was particularly impressive was how he treated an elderly woman in our party who had erred in how she ordered her steak cooked. AnMichael was super respectful and courteous to make sure she was satisfied. Most servers who have made an excuse. The Salmon and Trout were absolutely TOP SHELF! Probably the best seafood I have had in Lawrence and that includes the Mass Street Fish House. Except that the seafood here is about $5 to $10 less per entree that the high end places on Mass Street.Another wonderful surprise is the number of Gluten Free options on the menu. The GF pasta was a penne pasta and absolutely delicious. They also have two chocolate flourless desserts that are to die for.Lastly, their wine selection is superb. It is not super long, but there are plenty of varieties within each wine category and the prices are quite reasonable. They also offered "wines of the day" at under $20 in a separate menu and all seemed very high quality which is surprising. These must be sold at almost cost.
Met a girlfriend here for brunch on a Saturday and seeing that they had a nice, airy patio, we asked the hostess if we could be seated outside. She rolled her eyes and sighed, "I guess so but there's going to be a fifteen minute wait." Odd, because we counted no less than ten open tables outside but okay. Ten minutes later, an equally as apathetic hostess said, "Okay, we have a high top available." I politely explained we wanted outdoor seating. So we sit back down. Ten minutes later, hostess #2 asks us, "We can seat you now. Did you want to sit inside or out?" For the third time, we said outdoors. So we head to the second patio which is empty. Our server was polite but inattentive and mixed up our debit cards, putting the incorrect receipts with the incorrect card, and handing them to the wrong person. We tipped well in spite of him bumbling the tickets. The food was lukewarm but tasted alright. Their grits were made with cream which gave them a boost; however, their biscuits tasted suspiciously like Pillsbury Grands. Hmmmm.Drinks were priced well and they had a few different spins on the traditional mimosa. Try the pineapple and OJ one. It's on point. The Moscow Mule was way watered down and fell short of expectation. All in all, this place could do better by training their hostesses to not be so cold and inattentive. Friendly and kind makes a better impression than flippant and disinterested. Food could use some work on serving temps and waiters could be more involved.
Had my Daughter's Wedding rehearsal dinner/ Welcome Party here on 5/20.The Dinner was 20 people and Welcome Party was about 50. The food was wonderful as well as the drinks.Lisa Wall(Manager) and crew made sure that everything went smoothly everyone had a great time.Thank you again Lisa and crew for making that event special, my Daughter loved it!!
I was not impressed with my meal at all.I had the pork chop and it was all fat. I might of gotten 6 bites of pork. The peach salsa was canned peaches, pickled jalpano and tomatoes. I had 3 hush puppies that were all but burned. My husband had a great steak dinner. The mash potatoes were cold. After a long day of travelingI was disappointed. I will go to Texas Road HouseNext time.
su comida es exquisita y el servicio excelente!!
First time here... came to celebrate a friend's birthday.. birthday brunch... Wonderful dining and service... We will be back..Dill pickle soup ??.. Oyster and Lions mane mushrooms with goat cheese?? Fajitas Steak salad....
Did you know that Kale can actually taste good?Seriously... not just "good enough that I'll eat it because i know it's good for me", but good enough that i actually really enjoyed it!Salmon was cooked perfectly, which makes or breaks this dish. I had mine cooked medium, my mom's was medium well; we were both happy with our Salmon.
We love J. Wilson's so much we go every Sunday. Not only is the food delicious, but the staff are professional and so friendly. We especially love Anna and Alex who have memorized my toddler's order and put in the order as soon as we sit down. If you haven't tried J. Wilson's you are missing out!
Hands down their Wilted Kale is the best side dish I've ever eaten...so yummy! I really enjoyed their Three Meat Omelet with Fried Potatoes...and I stole most of my husband's Wilted Kale. My husband liked their Bratwurst with Sour Kraut and loved the Wilted Kale side dish. They also offer several flavors of Mimosas (the Grapefruit Mimosa was delicious)!
Great food, wine, and service. We went on a very cold evening. We were seated near the windows and it was uncomfortably cold. So, just watch where you are seated. Otherwise, you'll have an enjoyable time!
