Ambience is great.Music was fun....the day I was there.Food is decentMoistFlavorfulTo much sugar for my tasteservice was very decent but I was there at2 pm and not many patrons to deal with.The 3 guys at the bar dropping "F" bombs every other sentence was a turn off.
I've lived in and around Lawrence since 2009. This is hands down the best BBQ joint we've ever had.The owner is nice and always has a smile on his face. The staff is always polite everytime I eat here.The brisket is excellent, and the Olympic gold medal is really cool to check out if you've never seen one in person.Would highly recommend.
Best BBQ in town hands down. I am not a huge sauce guy but their sauce was absolutely amazing. Beans were very very good as well. My wife at the Mac and cheese skillet with pulled pork and she was raving how delicious it was. Absolutely 5 stars and more.
Genuinely disappointed with the food we got tonight. Got the Golds Sampler Platter with 1/4 slab rib, and, in short summary, the sausage and ribs were fine but not particularly impressive, the brisket and pulled pork were mostly tasteless and bordered on dry, and the chicken was frankly inedible because of how dry it was. The french fries were okay once we added salt, the "Jacques Mac + Cheese" was grocery store boxed quality, and the green beans were fine but still not a highlight. The portions were generous, but when the quality is poor, a large plate of it doesn't make it better. For $50 I expected a whole lot more from this place given the reviews. There are far better places to get BBQ in Lawrence, and for less money. Really disappointed, especially with how excited we were to try it. To their credit, the staff were very nice when I picked up our order, I just wish the food had also been so nice.Maybe worth noting, the food we got did not look like the quality that was shown in the large event video posted to Facebook April 7th. It also doesn't look nearly as good as some of the pictures shown in other reviews. Maybe that means an off day, maybe it means the catering is just better... I don't know. Ah well.
We just did a delivery order and the food was incredible. Between the pulled pork burnt ends and the Smokehouse beignets, not sure what was better. Wow!
Visiting Kansas and this is the first place I stopped. I'm so glad I did. The gentleman behind the bar was polite, friendly, and welcoming. May-Marie was our server and oh my goodness oh so nice, attentive and personable. The food was delicious! That sweet potato casserole was the best Ive ever had. Hands down. I got the pulled pork and some ribs, amazing! So tender! The sauces were a new flavor in my mouth and a good one. I can't describe it so you better just go try it! Great place, I'd go again.
Best BBQ in Lawrence! The chopped brisket is burnt-ends style and they are golden for sure: juicy, tender, a nice subtle smoky flavor, and just the right amount of fat. I’m a carnivore mostly, and that’s exactly what I look for! The BBQ sauce is perfect: not overly sweet and not overly vinegar’y … hard to make that just right but they nailed it. Also had the sweetie, a really tasty sweet potato side and also some beef-filled beignets. Spoke with the owner and learned the story behind the restaurant name. So cool! Will definitely return.

Loved it the first time we went. It was only okay the second time. Got ribs and pork beignet both times. First time everything was perfect! Second time the ribs were dryer and didn't fall apart like the first time. Also the beignets were smaller, the dough thinner and they were fried too long and burnt. It made me sad we brought family the second time bragging about how good it was the first time.Both times we were un able to trybthe banana pudding because they were out. The second time we arrived at opeing... and they were out...Photos are from 1st trip
Absolutely loved their Cajun turkey leg! That turkey spoke to my soul and left me full. I hope they bring it back ???
