I ordered the crumpets with bacon, eggs, and a coffee. The crumpets were incredible as well as the coffee. But the overeasy eggs and bacon were both terribly overcooked and very lacking compared to the crumpets. I will be back again because of the atmosphere, service and wonderful crumpets, but I hope next time the rest of my breakfast will be up to par.
This place has some of the best food in Des Moines. It’s simple, modern, brightly lit. Everything is just right. The mood itself, is five star quality. It feels healthy, understated, and they do a wonderful job with seasoning. Nothing I tried felt overly buttery, salty, or greasy. Amazing food at very reasonable pricing. The staff are friendly and plentiful. They are well-staffed to keep your food moving quickly, tables clean, and everything is FRESH.Highly recommend this place.
Met some friends here Saturday a.m. and had a terrific breakfast, as did my wife and so said everyone else in our group. Great service, food was interesting and perfect and a great space.
I’ve has the avocado toast several times at the St. Kilda downtown and it was excellent. Ordered it here and it was a disaster. Tiny dollop of crème fraîche, no radish, a light smear of avocado on a piece of toast I had trouble cutting with my knife. Inexcusable for any restaurant. The mark of an excellent operation is consistently high quality. It was a crime to charge $13 for this.
I had a very frustrating experience on Saturday, 1/22. I stopped in for dinner at around 6:00 and sat at the bar as I was alone and didn't want to take a table. I was not offered water as I would have expected when I first got there. When my meal was brought to me, I then asked for a glass of water. The bartender replied 'absolutely' but never did pour a glass for me. Forgetting once was acceptable but forgetting a 2nd time wasn't. What made it worse, the bartender's area for pouring drinks was directly in front of me and you would certainly think that seeing me would have prompted his memory that I had asked for a glass of water. Apparently not. When I left, I never did hear a 'thank you' or a 'bye'. It felt completely intentional although I have no idea of what I might have done to irritate the bartender. There are way too many good dining options in the Des Moines area to put up with this kind of service so this will be my last visit to St Kilda. FYI, I gave a 2-star rating because the food was good (although the roast pork sandwich is no longer on the menu which is why I stopped by in the first place).
We just stopped in for coffee/tea and some bakery items. It was so dang good! I highly recommend this place! Super cool atmosphere and delicious food.
Just went to dinner here with my husband tonight. We were seated right away but it took a very long time for someone to come take our drink orders and to even acknowledge our table. The service was extremely slow. We waited for almost 40 minutes to get our drinks. We didn’t get our dinner for over an hour after we had been there. Our waitress didn’t say much to anything to us the entire time we were there. I ordered the chicken sandwich and they were all out of buns. There were definitely tables getting slow service just like us and others around us that didn’t have to wait long at all. The food was very good but overall the experience wasn’t great.
I recently moved into the area and my parents came to visit. We wanted to try a fun place for breakfast and my mother found St. Kilda on Trip Advisor. It was only about 20 minutes from my apartment in Grimes. My father made a reservation for 9am. Parking was easy. The restaurant is very modern with large windows and a long narrow bar in the middle. We were immediately seated and offered drinks. My father had a Bloody Mary, my mother a Flat White, and I ordered a Mocha. We ordered Salmon & Eggs, Pork Belly Hash, and a Cheddar Chive Breakfast Sandwich. All were delicious. I could not believe how heavy the sandwich was when I picked it up. Service was excellent with three women rotating to check on us. We will be back again!
Every time I come here they knock it out if the park. Both breakfast and lunch on multiple trips here have always been great.Food is unique with great flavors. Probably my favorite spot for a business lunch meeting as well.
Excellent experiences EVERY. TIME. I loved every dish I’ve had.Today I had the creamy hummus with sour dough bread and a vegan Bahn mi sandwich. Drank a strawberry mimosa with it all.My friend had carne asada street tacos.Everything was perfect for taste, presentation, and quality.Servers are very sweet and personable. Ive been treated very kindly and respectfully. I’ve met the owner, Alex, and have had nice chats about business and quality dining.I’ve been very pleased with St Kilda and enjoy coming here to celebrate special occasions. Highly recommend. Love this place for a date brunch or lunch. Haven’t visited for dinner but I’m sure it would be very busy!Pro tip: make RESERVATIONS!!!!!
