I wanted to get a good breakfast at a local diner, that's not a chain restaurant. The server was really nice. The place is very clean. But breakfast is not their Forte. The reviews I read gave great reviews for lunch and dinner dishes; but not breakfast. I asked for eggs scrambled soft with toast. The eggs were overcooked and looked like they'd had a really bad experience on the grill. They were ready to leave and so was I. I wish I could give a good review of my meal but unfortunately I can't. Even my toast was burnt. I may go back to try dinner; but I can't get my steering wheel to turn in that direction.
This was a first visit to this diner... We selected it because they were a past finalist in the Best Tenderloin in Iowa contest. The atmosphere and decor was typical diner with an inviting outdoor seating area. The tenderloin was large. The flavor was good, but not exceptional. It was drier than normal which was disappointing. It was served with lots of lettuce, several tomato and onion slices. Pickles were not included. Ketchup and mustard was on the table. The fries are not homemade (but parmesan cheese was an option) and they did not have any of the homemade sweet potato chips listed on the menu. Basically, typical diner food, ambiance, and service... Good, but not exceptional.
I have always wanted to try this place, and got the opportunity on a Tuesday night. We were literally the only people in the whole restaurant. I ordered the chicken wrap and my husband the breakfast burrito (he got a burrito bowl, but oh well). Both were cold. Waitress was nice, but service and food were horrible.
Breakfast burrito in a bowl was very good. I loved the decor, paradise like. Friendly staff. Will definitely be back.
Stopped in randomly, the wait staff are so chill and nice, gave me advice for my bus travel situation, and the vibe is really nice. The food was awesome, prices ideal, 10/10 will come again! I forgot my waitress’s name but she had glasses, she’s super awesome, so thanks girl!

We enjoy going to Newton’s Paradise Cafe every time we go to Waterloo. The hot coffee is always flowing and is a nice medium roast. Their hash browns are nice and crispy. You will have quick friendly service. Download the passport parking app for the street parking before you get there, just to make your life easier. In the bathroom, you will be pleased to find a wide doorway big enough for a wheel chair and a changing table for the little ones. Afterward you can stop at the cute gift shop across the street.
This cafe was such a fun surprise. I felt like I was remaking an old movie. Enjoyed a beautiful creamy hot chocolate with tons of sweet cream and chocolate. Newtons is a very fantastic cafe. Don't miss it and I will be back with my husband. Also so nostalgic. It began in 1870 as a jewelry store!!!!! Fun fun fun!!!
The staff at Newton's is great and the food is amazing! Can't ask for a better breakfast place if you're looking for a quick and tasty bite.
