In town from Indiana to see family. What a great place to eat! The service was great! Hope to return sometime. Loved the fried pickles and homemade chips.

Had an excellent lunch with my son while passing through town. Solid food. Good service. Get the chips! Best I've had.

Fantastic dinner the food was so good! I had the ribeye steak sandwich with fries and it was so tasty cooked just the way I asked. We also had the shrimp Po-boy and ham and cheese sandwiches were also big hits with my dinner party! Home made potato salad was two thumbs up! Will definitely return next time I pass through town!

Charged twice for beers purchased at bar and with our food bill... didn't catch until back to the hotel. Purchased 1/2 order of food and received and charged for full order.

Amazing place! Staff was great and food is all hand batter, made from scratch delicious!!We had Green pepper rings with homemade honey mustard sauce for an appetizer and they were soooo good!!Next was 3 peice cod dinner with side salad and homemade mashed potatoes with Italian sausage gravy and Texas toast. It wasAll excellent . Please experience

I’m town from Denver, CO, visiting family. We read good reviews and decided to check it out on a chilly, rainy Saturday night. Arrived around 6:30, place was packed, waited about 15 min before a table opened up. They offered Wednesday, Friday and Saturday dinner specials on Saturday night - opted for Weds special. Steak was a great cut and well well prepared. Thai chili baked shrimp were tasty. The small red potatoes were the big surprise - so good - drizzling in buttery broth that reminded me the broth used for Norwegian potato dumplings (aka kumla). Friendly staff and great service. Will definitely be back.

Went there by recommendation and they didn't disappoint! Food and service was great!

I have been wanting to try the Blue heron for quite a while and finally got the chance! So happy to be in Mason City on a Saturday. I tried The fish /shrimp tacos with the Baja sauce, amazing. We also tried the hand breaded cheese balls with the in-house made barbecue sauce. Service was Very good. We will be going back!

2nd time my wife and I have visited the Blue Heron. Both times have been after attending the Color the Wind winter kite festival in Clear Lake. We visited several years ago and again yesterday 2/19/22. After reading many previous reviews I can only add to the growing legend this tiny bar/restaurant has created for itself. What you are reading is the state reviews is true. The staff working in this establishment really seem to enjoy serving every customer that comes into the building. When we arrived yesterday, there were at least 10 people waiting for a table. Granted, not much room to be able to wait, basically just in the aisle between the bar and the booths that line the opposite wall. First glance and it seems like a lot of local folks come here to eat and drink. That is usually a good sign. The customers eating/waiting for their food in the booths didn't seem to even notice all the bystanders, probably because of the excellent food and service. We were loudly greeted immediately upon entering the door by a very friendly staff behind the bar. Gave our name to be added to the waiting list. Seriously was only 5 (maybe 10) minutes and we were led to the back room area for seating. Again, this staff is really very noticeably not your average group of servers/cooks/table cleaning etc. We must have had 4 different people come by the table to wait on us (as well as all the other tables). Doesn't seem like any 1 person has a specific table. Whoever is closest to clean, to take an order, to bring the appetizer, drink, meal, bring you ticket will be the one you see. All the workers are smiling, crowd is enjoying themselves with talking/laughter and eating the delicious food. You can't leave this place without feeling better than you arrived. We sat side by side at our table (to allow a little more room for some seniors at the adjoining table) and were facing the kitchen where we could see the (3) cooks and busboys literally running around a very small kitchen area. Smiles, talking going on but everyone was really serious about getting the food orders out. I can't say I have ever watched a kitchen working all in unison like I saw here. It was really quite intriguing to watch. The wait staff was every bit as identical in the pace they were working at. They had much more room to work, but many more steps to take. These people go through an incredible workout for their shift. I really applaud their effort. You might think this may be covering up for the food. Nope - food and drink is every bit as elite as the staff. Ice cold beer - only way to have it but not offered like this in very many places. The Shrimp Po-Boy was excellent (nice amount of shrimp/sauce and condiments on a hoagie) and Blue Burger (perfect size burger with Blue cheese that you can actually taste) along with a substitute of onion rings in place of their home cooked fries make for a very nice meal. Totally give this restaurant a thumbs up and will stop whenever within 50 miles of this place. Really is worth the stop. Note: The entrance is in the rear of the restaurant where there is very limited parking in their lot. You can park on the side street to the building (was pretty rough and icy on the Saturday we visited) and there is also a public parking lot just a half block south of the bar (where we parked) and works out fine.

Delicious food with VERY friendly and attentive staff! Also, vegetarian friendly!
