This is the one of the best places in IC for affordable, quick Chinese food. Almost everything they do tastes great, and you can tell they take extra time, money and effort to make sure the food is clean and of better quality, especially compared to other shadier spots in town.

I absolutely LOVE this restaurant! I've been getting take out at Taste of China on First Ave in Iowa City for almost 20 years now, and they continue to be my favorite restaurant for Asian food. They may be no-nonsense as others have mentiones, but they get their food cooked quickly, it is always tasty, and it is very decently priced! Today was the first time in all these years that they've ever gotten my order wrong, and you know how they handled it? The owner/manager literally brought the dish TO MY HOME and apologized! Talk about amazing costumer service! I would give more than 5 stars if that was a choice! -Molly Rew
I normally love Taste of China, but tonight I did not. I decided to order something different, so chose Cashew Chicken. It was nothing like pictured. The chicken pieces had been deep-fried, not steamed, and the sauce was dark and heavy.. the cashews rather stale. It just tasted old. Very disappointing.
If I could give it zero stars I would. My sister and I both became ill after eating there. The conditions were not clean or sterile… In fact, our shirt sleeves were black from resting them on the table. I think the health department needs to inspect this place. Very unsanitary!
I ordered the diet version of shrimp with broccoli. The only difference between the diet version and the regular version is that they put the rice and sauce in separate containers so that you can have the shrimp and broccoli without the rice or sauce if you prefer it plain. The portion was huge and the leftovers made a great lunch. The broccoli was perfectly cooked and the number of shrimp included was generous. My only complaint related to the lack of plastic eating utensils that I’d asked to be included with my order. Delivery was rapid and the food arrived warm.
Some of the best Asian food I've had anywhere including SF and NYC. Great value and good portion sizes.
