My husband ordered dinner from Szechuan House to celebrate my birthday. Really enjoyed it!
I love the food here. Recommend trying something new than what you would usually order. So many great choices.
I’ve been going here for about 4 years, and they have progressively gotten worse, especially after the pandemic. I got the crispy duck tonight ($30 after tip) and they aren’t lying about it being crispy. Some pieces were 100% burnt and inedible. I gave them 2 stars bc they used to be one of my favorite places and would go there to treat myself. But now, unfortunately, not going there will be the new way I treat myself. Just go to Pullman or Soseki for a dinner worth your buck and around the same price. It’s not Chinese but it will be cooked well and with care for every order. 难吃的晚饭。I will say this: DORITOS has MSG in it! MSG is not bad and it’s racist to think so. Any complaints regarding MSG are based in ignorance and hate. The food is still poor quality and it is NOT because of MSG. 别说话婊子!
The food is really nice. Highly recommend the boiled beef and garlic chinese lettuce. Always have been a fan! Will come again.
The service was horrible! We had to search out someone to order, and once order was taken and food served, we had to search again for bill. Food terrible! No drink order but water. Sweet/sour pork ribs all bones. The restaurant was NOT busy! Expensive! Never again. Read all reviews before spending your money.
A modern atmosphere and a good selection of authentic Chinese dishes. The staff are great. I think this is the only authentic Chinese restaurant in the Iowa City area. I particularly like their dry spicy sautéed intestine, as well as the lion head meatballs.
Went there with my family on Christmas Eve. The staff there is very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is clean from the tables, floors, and bathroom. Neat decorations inside, appears to be recently remodeled. The food was very good. The texture of the tofu was very good and the chicken was great. I’m happy my family ate here. The price isn’t bad either, about 15-20 dollars per dish. A great place to order a few dishes and share with friends and family.
My party had the brown sugar rice cakes, fatty beef with pickle, traditional sweet and sour pork, pork with eggplant, beef tenderloin in chili sauce, and crispy duck with house sauce. Everything was absolutely incredible, except the duck which was good but nothing special. The fatty beef with pickle was (surprisingly) the table's favorite, and I completely recommend it. The price of the food is quite high, but the quality somewhat justifies it.
Food is greasy; average at best. If you eat in, the heat is cranked all the way up so it’s like eating in sauna. To add to the experience, they fill the water glasses with what tastes like sweat wrung from dish rags. If you order delivery, the food will arrive - at best - an hour after the time they quote you. I’m ashamed I gave them a second chance, but hopefully I can spare someone else. On the other hand, if you want to punish yourself for being too lazy to cook, this is a great restaurant for you.
Very much enjoy the food. Service always nice. Worth the price
