COCKROACHES IN THE FOOD!!!! Me and my girlfriend went to get pho earlier today and I got Fried Rice. We were absolutely horrified and disgusted when we are almost ready to get boxes to take the rest of our food home I discover a cockroach in my food. Do not go here because when there is one there is many.
We waited 5-10 mins before someone came to the counter to greet us. The Bahn mi is overpriced, the barbecue pork tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. The Bahn coun ground pork filling had a weird smell to it like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while as well (it was not the black mushroom causing the smell) also they use the same ingredients as the Bahn mi as an accompaniment to this dish.
The server did'nt come to get an order for more than 10 mins. so I went to the counter to order. And while Inwas waiting for my order, I saw a cockroach for the first time since I moved to Iowa. Really freaked out. I wouldn't be back here ever tho the taste was good.
Just found and tried this place. Loved it and can't wait to try again.
Nice traditional Vietnamese restaurant. I have been to this place two times out of which once I had a vegetarian dish there, which was the only available option for vegetarians. If you are vegetarian or vegan, I would not suggest this place but otherwise it's a great place. My friend loves to have dinner here and because of him I visit here. Another thing, the lemonade could be improved :D
Everything on the menu is great except for on tofu noodle dish.. If you don't know what to get, order the 16. Best Asian food in Iowa city, hands down.
Fantastic food!!! Exceptional service
Just close your eyes and point whatever on the menu to order. Everything is soooooo good! And the duck is a must try. It reminds me of Beijing duck from my hometown, Beijing. It is tender, juicy, and the skin is crispy. Perfectly executed! It is a place I'll definitely come back to explore their menu. Be patient on their service because the owners don't speak a ton of English. But the serving lady is sweet and she's very welling to introduce how to enjoy the dishes the right way.
I am not an adventurous eater. At ALL. But when I first met my husband he insisted I try pho. We went to a different place in iowa city and got some and I was not a fan (I ate tripe not knowing what it was and after I found out I resented pho altogether). That was three years ago and he asked me to try this other place, Sun Cafe, because it was totally different. After constantly asking I agreed and I have to say, I’m honestly surprised how much I love their pho. They offer a pretty large menu with lots of options for pho and other Vietnamese dishes. I always get the pho with beef and brisket (I’m still not that adventurous lol) and it is quickly becoming a favorite. I swear we go at least once every two weeks. The woman up front has always been super kind to us (and yes sometimes you can hear her yelling but it honestly doesn’t bother me) and we have always been served our food quickly (within 3-8 minutes after arriving). Broth is always great, no weird changes and super flavorful! The restaurant itself is also well kept and has a nice atmosphere, very spacious. If you’re like me and want to try new foods without going out of your comfort zone, Sun Cafe is a great place for picky eaters and regulars :)
Moving from VA to IA I was really worried I wouldn’t be able to find good pho, and this place was a home run only a couple blocks from home! Enjoyed the delicious pork egg rolls and seafood pho. Excited to go back and try more things soon!
